Yes but if overseas are selling the same product as you but cheaper, then they will get buy box over you
Buy Box (Featured Offer) eligibility
You agreed to the terms of selling on here when you signed up, nobody is forcing you to stay here, and we have all had to go through this. If your price is a lot higher then the other seller, even if they are in China, then you will never get the buy box, as Amazon only allow the buy box to go to sellers who have what they consider a fair price, based on previous sales history.
But as others have pointed out, you still have at least 30 days before you are eligble anyway, regardless of what price you are charging.
Also Feedback , speed of delivery and customer service seems to be in the buy box awards too .
For example .I found that on one item I sell at £7.43 is 7p more expensive than another seller .
I am at currently on 100% feedback in the 90 day period wheras they are on 84% and I deliver items quicker and keep my nose clean ,so the system awards me the buy box over them for the item although it is more expensive ,So it proves in my case on several items, you dont have to be the cheapest to get the Buy box!
Having the buy box also doesn’t mean that you will get the order from Customer they also tend not to purchase from a Quality Seller , check your Postage settings.
Ok, so 90days seems to be the key here. That was not mentioned in my many contacts with Seller Support.
Amazon suggests that the main requirement for a BB is that you are a Professional Seller …and do all the things that are normally accepted for a USP.
You will soon learn that Seller Support advice and information is not always correct - over time many have been given totally wrong advice from SS associates who read from crib sheets and do not know as much as we do !!
There are many buy box examples in the Books category which defy any sort of logic and appear to flout the very limited amount of “rules” that Amazon tell us about… There are numerous examples of vastly overpriced books with sellers with very poor feedback getting the buy box. I assume this happens in other categories.
I surmise from this that the “rule” that Amazon are keeping from us is:-
“We reserve the right to give the buybox to anyone we like regardless of how unfair it is to everyone else”
There are many people on this forum who think that Amazon are wrong on this and many other issues. Some posters take the attitude that it’s Amazon’s club and they can impose any rules like that and that sellers just have to put up with it. .On the other hand there are posters like me and you who take the view that Amazon’s wrongs should be righted. One of the few ways we can acheive that is by posting on this forum. We know that somebody at amazon reads this forum - I can almost guarantee that a seller poll will appear in the next couple of weeks something along the lines of “Sellers are confident of the fairness of the \buybox”
Whether or not Amazon change anything is a different question but I’m fairly confident that things will never change if nobody protests
Including Amazon giving themselves the ‘buy box’ for an item ‘currently unavailable’, yet for a book listed as NEW at the RRP from the 1970/80s (eg. £2.99), for a book they will never get new, yet there are other sellers with ones available in ‘like new’ condition.
Absolutely no logic there !
But surely that should be a two way thing ? I , for example , signed up before the buy box was introduced. Amazon then introduced the buy box without any consultation with me
Amazon only allow the buy box to go to sellers who have what they consider a fair price, based on previous sales history.
That is not right (see my comment above)
you still have at least 30 days before you are eligble
Is that “official” from amazon or just another chinese whisper
There are Many things AMZ do that Make many sellers life difficult, and sometimes policy’s or decisions made are just straight up counterproductive to a fair and competitive capitalist marketplace. However, in my relatively limited experience on the platform, and so humble opinion, the Buy Box does not fall under this category. As some sellers have mentioned, if your account is under 90 days active, and you are not listing under FBA, You are almost certain not to be given Buy Box, why? Because AMZ does not want to promote an offering from one whom they have no data from regarding performance, they are protecting the buyer, and actually you also, lets say you have 500 units, Buy Box is given, you make a serious amount of sales, but you cannot fulfill all orders effectively due to lack of experience or unenforceable issues, you will have issues with orders, cancellations, late delivery etc, and then your problems will be much bigger than no buy box, in this situation you may have no account! Frustrating as it may be, AMZ platform is not the place for quick turn around’s with regards to cash flow. My Advice…
Wait until account has been on for 90 Days
Dont stress yourself with communication AMZ support, they wont help, and you will feel extremely frustrated.
Continually lower your price over the period of an hour, and then check when the buy box is live, then you will know price point for AMZ’s formula of accepting Buy Box.
And finally dont stress over it, Being new on this platform is a struggle, and nothing happens quickly, keep plugging away, make the right decisions, be productive, dont give up, expect many more disappointments and set backs.
If one is awarded a Buy Box for a listing. Is it likely that a Buy Box will then be granted for subsequent, different product listings?
Assuming the quantity, prices etc are acceptable.
If you believe this (and I think you are right) how can you possibly have any faith in what amazon does or says .
I don’t have a great deal of faith in what Amazon does or Says. I just take advantage of the profit I can make on here and stay within the rules. It works.
But the point of my question to to you was that if Amazon’s own help desk cannot be trusted to give you correct information how can you possibly know what the rules are?
Buy Box is given on specific data specific to each listing, so no, just because you have buy box at this time on a particular listing, does not mean you will be given it again, on another listing
Because the rules are written down. Obviously something is working, as I’ve managed to avoid trouble over the last 5/6 years or so.
Yes, things change all of the time, but if you apply common sense to it, you can get through without too many problems. But I fail to see, what this all has to do with what the post was about.
Interesting comment on the support aspect - my findings are they just spout policty and do not do any thinking (let alone intelligent thinking) about the issue at all and do definitely not tell you what you want to hear !
sometime you just got to be consistent and wait
for the buy box ,patient is key on amazon i have found .
It’s not official from Amazon. Amazon’s publicly stated policy is:
"Order volume: In order for Amazon to accurately assess your performance, we require that you have sufficient order volume (which varies among categories)."
They don’t mention 90 days anywhere nor what level of sales are required, so based on the above it will be down to how quickly a seller can get sales so that Amazon can assess their performance.
