Can anyone recommend a B2B SEPA Euro Bank Account?


When you make a non-SEPA payment, the recipient is often charged a significant international bank transfer fee, so I can imagine the penalty is there to cover it.



I am having exactly the same issue and I keep receiving penalties which I am appealing to, no response from French Tax office to my appeals. I have researched UK and Poland (our main business is in UK and we have a branch in Poland) both countries banks can’t offer SEPA direct debits for us (or they have restrictions like Barclays) I understand there is certain fee for French tax office for processing our manual transfers however this should not be as much as 60EUR… I am seriously considering hiring a lawyer or a company that specialise in cases dealing with tax office in France as they should not force us to do something that is not possible for us (smaller businesses) technically we have no options available so we could comply and certainly French Tax office makes money on it as addition profit.

Has anyone tried to appeal to French tax office?
Or using assistance from any services that specialise in such appeals? looks like a massive issue for everyone especially that very soon it will be compulsory for every business to register if using FBA in France


I’m aware accounts that can handle SEPA B2B Direct Debits are quite rare in some EU countries, and often have high turnover requirements (e.g. €2m pa). My understanding is that France say they require a SEPA B2B Direct Debit, but are currently only fining non-SEPA payments. This means a SEPA Credit Transfer currently does not receive a penalty. Have you looked into that as an (interim) option?

It might be worth asking an MEP to raise a question about the level of the fines. If the EU Commission think they’re potentially excessive that might assist with your appeals, without you involving lawyers or going to court.


Maybe try Ebury
They give us a good exchange rate in any world currency and we pay on line in GBP
and then deposit it to our bank account that they set up. and we use this to pay many of our suppliers.

Lloyds Bank do B2B SEPA DD. However the French authorities are having issues with their mandate processing and the payment keeps getting rejected. It would appear that the French Authorities need to sort their systems out.


Lloyds have the same parameters as all the other UK banks. More than 2mil in turnover and 10+ employees.

There’s no working solution right now


With no workable solution in sight, is anyone interested in joining forces to work together to try to resolve this issue?

I am wondering whether perhaps as a group of sellers, we could approach some or all of banks, FX companies, Amazon, MEPs and the French tax authority to raise our concerns.

As a longer-term solution it would be helpful if a bank or EMI (like Transferwise, Revolut or WorldFirst) could allow SEPA B2B DD on their accounts without a €2m turnover requirement.

I just checked with WorldFirst - apparently their payments to France are “SEPA” which I assume means SEPA Credit Transfer.

Regarding SEPA B2B Direct Debit, apparently they are looking into it for the future.


After a long battle, I managed to get the SEPA B2B Direct Debit set up with Barclays.

There is a 2 million EUR / 10 Staff clause, I’ll offer no advice and leave it up to each business to decide what they want to do with the form.

The form can be downloaded at the link below, only works with adobe. You have to re-select the UK Business banking box for the additional 4 pages to load. It needs to be submitted to your relationship manager.

@3dots - its crazy! We had SEPA set up fine for over a year. But Barclays decided to change our IBAN number, and as such we had to set up a new SEPA! I’ve been trying for 6 months to get it set up again, but now I’m told we are a “micro business” and can’t do it! Bloodyridiculous that France expects everyone to pay with SEPA when you have to be earning €2 million or have 10 employees to do it! We are a 2 man band, and don’t come anywhere near that.


Update: I’ve now been paying French VAT for over a year, through World using SEPA Credit Transfer (not direct debit).

I have not received any penalties. I cannot guarantee this will remain the case, but for now it seems to be OK.


Can I ask where you managed to get hold of the IBAN and BIC/Swift to make the transfer?


Rimmon - I’m using World First to pay French VAT. It is SEPA credit transfer, not direct debit.

To see your IBAN and BIC for France go to Reports - File your VAT - View Payment Instructions.

In the reference of your transaction include your
company name
VAT Payment Reference provided by Amazon.

(I was missing out my company name, and France were unable to match my payment (so I was getting late payment notices). Now it seems ok)


It states on World First’s main page that: Minimum transfer amount for Individuals & Businesses is £1K

Is that true?


Sorry, not sure what the £1k limit refers to. Currency trading perhaps?

I’ve made payments as little as €10 to overseas suppliers, no problem.


We also had similar concern as Avalara said we have to be on SEPA B2B for French tax otheriwse pay 60 EUR penalty. We are with TransferWise who are SEPA Core so couldn’t setup. Have been paying through direct transfer since 5 months and have not received any penalty. So may be its all started by Avalara for no apparent reason…
