Fuel surcharges up again for RM

Just received this

Change to the fuel surcharge
Dear Customer,

I am writing to inform you that from Monday 4 July 2022, due to the increased level of fuel costs we will be increasing the fuel surcharge from 6% to 8% for all our UK domestic contract services.

Fuel surcharges do not apply to non-contract business and consumer parcel services.

Details of our latest fuel surcharge can be found here.

Kind regards,

Royal Mail Customer Services

Making hundreds of millions in profits and still hitting us with a fuel surcharge which is unethical in the first place. RM out to kill small businesses

that’s why I’m not using their collection service. The same thing done by dpd and I finished their business too. Hermes and Ups are ok for now.

90% of our orders are sent via large letter so unfortunately we don’t have a choice, it is getting to the point now where RM price increases seem to be monthly one way or another…

I’m confused by fuel surcharges. I’m a business customer and use RM 24/48 but I drop my post off at the Post Office everyday so surely I should not be paying the surcharge?

Or is this surcharge added no matter if you use the collection option or drop off at Post Office?

Also it doesn’t seem to apply to 1st or 2nd Class large letters, if that is the case these are surely now a better option price wise?

Surcharges are meant to be for spikes in contracts not as a way for the corporate customers to foot the bill for the profit centre losses of the whole business… What happened to their surcharge when oil was on its backside for nearly 2 years? Nothing.

This is the bit that always gets my goat. Why are non business post exempt from these surcharges??? Because the news would be all over it with the average joe being up in arms about the increased cost.
If anything apply the surcharge to everyone so that cost can be spread.

Royal Mail 2nd class standard parcel is a bargain at £2.90-£3.00. Although it may be a bit pricier then Evri and others, we save a fortune in parcels that don’t get lost by Royal Mail.

Fuel prices are going up by 8-10 pence in the next coming days. But this makes no reason to increase the fuel surcharge by 6% to 8%. Big business have always been squeezing profit from wherever they can deem possible.

Ok so we can all moan about the prices but what is the true cost to send large letters

I have a account with RM and send large letter using basic barcodes labels and average weights of 500gm am I right to say the TRUE cost is £1.66 plus surcharge 6% .9p plus amazon fees 15% 26p plus vat 41p =

Total £2.41 i need to get from the customer to send them a large letter packet?

If they aren’t careful soon it will be cheaper to send by normal consumer price than business contract price!
