IOSS not working?

We have had several complaints (esp France & Belgium) that the recipient is being charged VAT despite the Amazon IOSS No being very clearly displayed on the packages we send. So, this is, in effect, a double charge. I see some others have had similar. Is it French vengeance for Brexit? I keep providing the buyers with accurate info on how IOSS is supposed to work and advise them to forward this to their national postal offices whose own websites invariably show exactly the same info. I assume it isn’t worth asking Amazon to intervene.

Are you uploading the IOSS number electronically?

When you say the IOSS is not very clear on the package, are you writing it on the label yourself?
Usually, you would just see a little IOSS icon on the address label, not the actual number itself.

They can receive that information by scanning the parcel, if you have added the IOSS number on your Royal Mail Online account, or the account for whichever service you were using. I don’t think you can post them abroad without an online account, unless you use Amazon’s postage options. Don’t quote me on that one, though!

To be honest, I have thought that sometimes with our parcels, mainly in Spain. We’ve received more parcels back than normal, and the reason is always “not reclaimed”. I just find it strange that all these orders in one go had that issue, when we maybe usually get that kind of problem a couple of times a year. It did feel like they were just returning the parcels for the hell of it, because of Brexit.

With you saying that the IOSS isn’t very clear though, it just makes me wonder how you are applying it?

All our packages are sent from the local Post Office with tracking (but not on an RM account). The Amazon IOSS number is added in big bold red letters to the CN22 customs label which is print filled (not handwritten). I would have thought this was enough (and in most cases it is) so I’m not sure how we can make it any clearer. France seems to be the worst culprit with Belgium a close second. Greece seems OK.

If I was selling to the EU (which I’m not, for now), I would use Amazon postage. Over on Etsy, where I do, I always use their postage when sending to the EU as they, the marketplace take care of all the data - once you purchase the postage.

I don’t think I’d trust it to the PO, even though I use the PO every day. I’m not even sure how the PO deal with IOSS - apart from scanning my labels I’ve purchased on Etsy.
