New product under Private Label
I will be starting my brand as I have completed the process of brand registration .
Need your help to understand few points .
- I have a Sell as a Individual account so for private label do I need to change that to Sell as a professional or first wait for few weeks just to see the response .
2 . It will be a fresh listing, Shawls for women . Do I need to get a UPC code for that and if yes what do you suggest . There will be colour variations to my products .
I have sold 9 products in this account by selling it under some other brand but now I am starting my Own .
Looking forward for a reply

Yet another person getting accounts and selling plans muddled up.
I am not criticising you at all, but actually Amazon, as they do not make this clear in the sign-up pages.
There are two types of ACCOUNT (the legal entity):
Individual - ONLY for selling off your own personal second-hand items, such as books, DVDs, CDs etc.
Business - for selling items bought or made to sell for profit. You also need to be registered with HMRC as self-employed.
Then there are two selling PLANS:
Individual - where you pay a small extra fee per sale.
Professional - pay a monthly fee of £30, includes added benefits.

Back to another comment in your first post.
Yes, will need to buy barcodes for your items - from GS1 only - unless you can get a GTIN exemption.

Okay , No I have not done the registration with HMRC as till now I was selling as a Individual .
Now will be selling as a private label so I need to do the registration with HMRC . Thanks For clarifying that . Is it expensive to register yourself as company with HMRC ?

If you are selling for profit then you need a professional seller account. If you are the owner of the brand and have your brand registered with the IPO then it is highly advisable to have the professional selling plan.
You will benefit as follows:
- With your own brand you can apply for GTIN exemption and use barcodes other than GS1.
- Here is where I bought my barcodes https://nationwidebarcode.com/
- You can apply for Amazon’s Brand Registry program so your brand will be protected on Amazon.
- You will be able to control your listing and set the price as well as having the best chance of winning the buy box so long as you do not give permission to other sellers to sell your branded items.
Brand ownership has many benefits, but you must start off on the right foot. So take note of the other comments and get your business set up correctly. Best of luck!

That’s great you have completed your registeration process.
You should switch your account to professional selling plan. It will give more benefit than individual.
You Should Buy UPCs From GS-1. But, You can list your products with GTIN Exemption if you do not want to buy. But, make sure first either amazon giving exemption for your product or not.

I got my GTIN exemption rather easily and in a few hours just by taking a few pictures of a product with my own brand’s logo. Nothing too technical, but I already had a logo, website and have been a sole trader for a number of years. I am not even considering brand registry at the moment, first I want to build a portfolio of private label products for Amazon then if they sell I will proceed with it. I would suggest to go step by step, unless you have a really revolutionary product that others might steal straight away, brand registry can wait a little bit IMHO. Having a UTR is definitely a more important priority, you need to start from the foundation, not the roof.

Just to clarify, are these products you are making yourself by hand, or products that are being made elsewhere?
If you’re making them yourself, then Handmade is probably far better for you as you won’t have to worry about GTIN exemption or brand registration. You will, however, have to demonstrate that they really are handmade by writing an application with your processes etc and they may request evidence, so only take this route if it’s a genuinely handmade product, and made by you.

As I have registered my brand , can I ask get GTIN exemption or still need to buy codes from GS1.
