Read onlyOn 1 April 2019 I sent a 140 gpackage to Greece using Royal Mail International Tracked and Signed service at a cost of £8.45. Royal Mail states …Delivery aim 3 - 5 working days !
This morning I get a message from Customer in Greece asking where is parcel? So I check the tracking to find…
Item didn’t even arrive in Greece until 8 April.
First delivery attempt was made on 22 April!?
3.Second delivery attempt made 2 May
4 item is now in postal depot in Germany and has been since 8 May!!
Spent an hour waffing about online then direct phone call to Royal Mail Customer Services…which took 27 minutes before someone answered!Told me their sister Courier DLS or something like that handles international mail and item will eventually return to me!
What a total mess! Why did parcel sit for 14 days before any delivery attempt made?
Anyone able to throw any extra insight on what’s happened before I reply to Customer?.
Thanks
Here’s a list of Royal Mail delivery partners for tracked and signed items:

It’s GLS in Greece. We’ve always had long delays with Greece.
Greece is full of islands, you send through royal mail in the UK it will go to Frankfurt in Germany into gls hands, who will send to Athens, from Athens it gets directed to another courier - one who is based on that island, usually a small firm, the post is collected by boat and sorted - how often it is collected causes delays
The time between Athens and the island is huge, always been the same, always will be, problem is ebay and amazon base delivery to Greece as Athens which is 3-5 days, the islands take an age and can be very difficult to deal with as no online tracking is available for this - relies on the local postie confirming manually to the gls system
you can make a claim for transit delay
You can refund the Buyer asap, MINUS the shipping cost as there were attempted deliveries. That will save an A-Z Claim being won by the Buyer.
Email the Buyer to let them know. Provide tracking details etc.
It is always worth setting up delivery dates on the Amazon system far ahead of estimated dates by RM, that way the Buyer cannot complain to Amazon. If it arrives faster, then they will be happy.
As the others said GLS is the courier, but they then use local agents in each country and often the larger agent uses a 1-man courier to each island. So Greece always has issues!
