Royal Mail Parcel Postboxes

Hi Guys,

I mentioned this on another thread, but I thought I would give it a bit more visibility.

Royal Mail have introduced new fangled Parcel Postboxes up and down the country.

https://www.royalmail.com/d8/parcel-post-boxes

Others report that they are near Royal Mail sorting offices. Seems a lot of them are, but my two nearest are not, but on the edge of light industrial estates, so an easy cycle …

The one I used yesterday, had a last collection at 6.30, which beats all the postboxes around and my local Post Offices, several of which are now closed … So could be options for other sellers on her !

I am in West London. I posted a Special Delivery in it at 6.25 PM. Which was delivered to rural Cornwall, 220 miles away, this morning before 11 !

Well Done and Thank You Royal Mail !

Thanks for your update. However I’m a bit puzzled here because this is the information from your link:

Please note that the maximum Parcel size allowed into our new Postboxes is 44cm x 35cm x 16cm. Any Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed items, Royal Mail International Tracked items, and any Royal Mail Tracked Returns without a barcode on the label must be posted in a Post Office branch and cannot be dropped off at a Parcel Postbox.

By dropping in a Special D parcel, it had absolutely no cover whatsoever in the event of loss or damage, did it not?

Thanks for the tip. Saw this on the RM website a few months back but there were only a handful in a couple of counties. Seems the list has expanded quite rapidly - three in my local area now.

Thanks for the info, is it possible to post OBA parcels through this without a manifest?

Guys, if you can, check your local one out.

I used it again last night. I had a " Small Parcel ". I was very happy. These things have huge " mouths ". To give you an idea, these things will easily swallow something the size of a VHS machine, DVD player, HiFi Separate. If you sell things like Monopoly sets, no problem !

I’m so lucky and happy to have one near me !

Thank you Posties, Royal Mail, and 4Thought !

Tried my local (Ashford, Kent) yesterday at about 3:30pm, got two small boxes in and it was full - my final parcel was stuck in the top slot and it wouldn’t open up far enough to remove it (so it was safe).

Went back past it on my way home from grocery shopping, around 4:15pm, and it had been emptied, so I was able to post the rest of them. Last collection displayed on the box was 6pm.

The Tracked 24 (dropped in the box at 4:15pm) was scanned as received in Medway at 1:33am and delivered at 9:30am this morning.

So, all in all, a good experience, but may not be sufficient for high volume or Amazon SFP same-day dispatch scans.

Is anyone else finding taller items getting stuck in the top of these boxes? Any under 10cm will drop through without issue, but my 25x18x13cm boxes are getting jammed in the top of the box, rendering it unusable by anyone else until it’s emptied. RM website states the maximum dimensions as 44x35x16cm.
