Find Your Product ID

For most categories, you are required to associate your products with industry-standard product identifiers to create new product pages and offer listings on Amazon. These IDs help ensure product page accuracy by matching listings to products that already exist in the Amazon catalogue.

Product IDs are part of a system of unique identifiers called GTINs, or Global Trade Item Numbers. The most common GTINs used to create Amazon catalogue pages are Universal Product Codes (UPCs), International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs), European Article Numbers (EANs) and Japanese Article Numbers (JANs). Product IDs are different from Amazon Standard Identification Numbers (ASINs) because they are used by many systems outside Amazon.

Note: The use of false product identification information, including product IDs, is prohibited and can result in your ASIN creation privileges being removed. Product IDs will be confirmed against the GS1 database. For more information, see Product Detail Page Rules and the ASIN Creation Policy.

To find a product ID:

  1. Check Category requirements for product IDs to see if your product has specific ID requirements.
  2. Look for ISBNs, UPCs, EANs or JANs above or below the barcode on the packaging (or cover) of your product. GTIN-14s appear on the shipping container.

ISBN: 10 digits or 13 digits. Include the letter X if the ISBN ends with that letter.
UPC: 12 digits. Include the digits on the left and right-hand sides of the barcode.
EAN, JAN: 13 digits
GTIN-14: 14 digits

Where to use product IDs

If you use the Add a Product tool to list products, enter the product ID in the search bar to find it in the Amazon catalogue. If you are using an inventory file template, enter the product ID in the product-ID field.

If your product is a bundle or a pack, make sure that you add the correct product ID for that pack and item quantity rather than the product ID for a single item contained in the pack.
