Remove inventory automatically

You can set up automatic removals for your inventory at Amazon fulfilment centres. You can enable removals for unsellable or stranded inventory or for both types of inventory. Eligible unsellable units can be automatically refurbished or liquidated as value recovery alternatives to the units, to be returned to the seller address or disposed.

Note: You can configure Automated unfulfillable settings depending on whether your unfulfillable inventory is in the UK or the EU. Returns and other settings are separate for the UK and the EU. For example, you can provide a local return address for the UK but another address for inventory in the EU. Ensure to update the settings for both the UK and the EU regions. An incomplete or invalid address will lead to settings being disabled in the respective region and inventory will be subjected to the required removals policy.

To preserve the customer promise, Amazon fulfils inventory based on its location to quickly deliver the order to the customer. We don't fulfil inventory in the order that it was received in our facilities. For more information, go to Expiry dates on FBA products.

Remove unsellable inventory automatically

When inventory in an Amazon fulfilment centre is not in sellable condition, its status changes to Unfulfillable and it is set aside. If you do not create a removal order for your unsellable inventory within 30 days after Amazon notifies you of its required removal, it is likely to be automatically disposed of. You can remove unsellable inventory at any time by submitting a removal order. For more information, go to Remove inventory from a fulfilment centre.

You can also choose to have unsellable inventory refurbished, liquidated or returned to you automatically by enabling the service in your seller account. Ensure to update the settings for both the UK and the EU.

Note: Lost, expired, carrier-damaged or warehouse-damaged units are not eligible for removal.

  1. From the Settings menu, select Fulfilment by Amazon or from the Fulfilment by Amazon settings page, locate Automated unfulfillable settings.
    Note: If your permissions don’t allow you to complete these navigational steps, try the following: On the Inventory tab, click Manage FBA inventory. Click Remove unfulfillable inventory, and then click Auto removal settings.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. On the Automated Unfulfillable Settings page, click Enable and select one of the following for unsellable inventory:

    Removal options

    Return to have unsellable inventory returned to you.

    Dispose to have unsellable inventory disposed of.

    Value recovery options (optional)

    Refurbishment to have eligible unsellable inventory refurbished for sale. (Learn more on refurbishment service)

    Liquidations to have unsellable inventory liquidated (Learn more on liquidation service)

  4. Under Removals: choose return or dispose section, select your preferred schedule for removal options from the Schedule drop-down.
    • Weekly (on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 28th)
    • Twice a month (on the 5th and 20th)
    • Once a month (on the 1st)
  5. In the Email address text box, enter your preferred email address.
  6. If you selected Return from the Return or dispose option, provide the address and phone number for the delivery destination.
  7. Click Update.

Remove inventory subject to a long-term storage fee automatically

On the 15th of each month inventory stored at our fulfilment centres for more than 365 days is subject to long-term storage fees. For more information, go to FBA long-term storage.

By enabling Automated long-term storage removal in your Fulfilment by Amazon settings page, you request to have any units affected by an “inventory cleanup” automatically removed, either returned to you or disposed of at the fulfilment centre.

Long-term storage fees are not charged as long as a request is made to have such inventory removed or disposed of before the “Inventory cleanup” deadline. You can view long-term storage fee as well as removal and disposal fee costs under the pricing tab of our marketing website.

Remove fulfilable inventory automatically

You can choose to have fulfilable inventory removed through automated fulfilable inventory settings. Once enabled, we’ll return, liquidate, or dispose of fulfillable inventory that's been in a fulfilment center from 1 to 12 months.

Important: Removal orders will be created one to two weeks after the inventory cleanup date. For more information about cleanup dates and fees, go to FBA long-term storage fees.

  1. On the Settings menu, select Fulfilment by Amazon.
  2. Locate Automated fulfilable inventory settings, and then click Edit.
  3. Automated fulfilable inventory settings
  4. Select either Return or Dispose as your removal option.
    • If you select Return:
      1. In the Email address text box, enter your preferred email address.
      2. Provide the address and phone number for the delivery destination.

        Note: To avoid errors when saving information in your seller account, the full name and address fields cannot be longer than 50 characters, and the return address must be a physical street address.

      3. Click on Update.
    • If you select Dispose:
      1. Optionally enable Liquidations to recover value from eligible units.

        Note: Once enabled, you can exclude ASINs from liquidation by entering them as a comma-separated list.

      2. In the Email address text box, enter your preferred email address.
  5. Click on Update.
