A pet food is any product intended for the oral feeding to pet animals including dry pet food, wet pet food, pet supplements, and dog chews. To ensure pet food is safe for use, there are many different requirements for the composition and presentation. Pet food composition vary according to its purpose of use that can be either complete pet food or complementary pet food. While there is no legal definition for “pet supplement” in the EU and the UK laws, the term refers to complementary pet food or dietetic pet food products offering additional nutrients or functional ingredients.
Pet food mandatory labelling details shall appear on the physical label and most of the information must also appear on the detail page, through the detail page text and/or images for distance selling. All mandatory pet food labelling information must be provided at the time of delivery.
