Yes, this can happen when other European countries have not been updated regardless of whether you sell on them or not. Also worth checking that your card is up to date on your buyer account too.

I've got this coming up next month and I'm absolutely dreading it.
Major headache last time I had to do it.
Should be completely straight forward, but then this is Amazon.

Can i update all the other european sites with the same card (They are all currently set to the bank account Visa card and I have had no issues with them before, the problem was with the card I was using on the UK site which I have now changed to the visa debit card

The most obvious answer that I can give is that you need to have some money in the account. Do not give card details for a bank account that has a zero balance.
You can use the same bank card across all sites if that bank card allows charges in different currencies to be made. A lot of high street bank accounts do not allow this.

I completely understand the frustration — you've updated your card, received a "verification successful" message, and yet the "invalid charge method" emails keep coming. Let me explain what's likely happening here.
The most likely cause: You're using a debit card, and that's the problem.
Even though Amazon's system may initially accept and "verify" a debit card (including charging the £1 verification fee), debit cards are known to cause ongoing "invalid charge method" issues on UK seller accounts. Here's why:
- Amazon's verification process checks whether the card exists and can process a small charge — this is the "successful" message you received
- However, the ongoing charge method validation (which runs periodically to ensure the card can cover fees, subscription charges, or negative balances) often rejects debit cards due to spending limits, transaction type restrictions, or lack of credit facility
- Many UK debit cards have daily transaction limits or restrictions on recurring/continuous payment authorities that trigger the "invalid" flag even after initial verification passes
This is an extremely common issue reported by UK sellers — the initial verification succeeds, but the system continues to flag the card as invalid
The most reliable solution is to replace your debit card with a proper credit card. Here's how:
- Go to Seller Central → Settings → Account Info
- Under Payment Information, click Charge Methods
- Click Replace Charge Method
- Enter a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express)
- Ensure the billing address matches your card statement exactly
Accepted cards for UK sellers:
✅ Visa Credit
✅ Mastercard Credit
✅ American Express
❌ Prepaid cards
❌ Virtual cards
⚠️ Debit cards (may verify initially but often fail ongoing validation)
If a credit card isn't an option for you right now:
Contact your bank and ask them to:
- Remove any online transaction limits
- Authorise recurring/continuous payment authority for Amazon
- Ensure the card is enabled for international transactions (Amazon's billing system may route through Luxembourg)
Re-enter the card details in Seller Central (even if it's the same card — remove it and add it fresh)
Wait up to 5 business days — sometimes the system takes longer than the stated 48 hours to fully validate
- The "invalid charge method" emails are automated and will continue to be sent at intervals until the system fully validates your card
- Even after a successful update, it can take 48 hours to 5 business days for the emails to stop
- If you've only just updated, give it a few more days before taking further action
- However, if it's been more than 5 business days and you're still receiving them with a debit card, that's a strong signal the debit card won't work long-term
If persist, Open a case via Help → Get Support → Selling on Amazon → Your Account → Charge Methods and include:
Confirmation that you've updated to a credit card
The last 4 digits of the card
A screenshot showing the card is listed in your Charge Methods
Hope this helps! The short answer is: debit cards often cause this exact issue even after "successful" verification — switching to a credit card almost always resolves it permanently. 🤝
