Amazon refunded buyer without returning item or any reason
Hi all,
Thank you for any and all help with this issue. I will try to keep this brief.
I have been selling for 3 months now via FBA and have recently had amazon refund a buyer’s purchase for an item worth £80. I have only received an email notifying me of the refund without any mention of a return of the item or reason as to why. Is this normal? and are there any steps i can take to get the buyer to return the item as they now have a full refund, the item and I am without reason.
Normally I wouldn’t be so concerned if the item was in a lower price range however i am concerned as i have other higher priced items £200+ that i do not want this happening with without any notification from amazon other than to say they have taken money from my balance. In the orders section i am unable to message the buyer directly and am unsure about the best route of action to take? I would like to resolve this quickly as i don’t think my chances are getting any better as time passes.
I know from how amazon can be in these situations
Any and all input is welcomed and appreciated
Thanks
Lucas

Wow this is a big worry! I am new to Amazon Seller so cannot advise you but I will watch this thread to see what replies you get. Can you share screenshots here of what has happened? Thanks.

I am new to selling too. But from the research I have done, It is my understanding that there are various settings for return of a product, such as Amazon authorising the return and the product going back to the FC (if your FBA) or you dealing with the return and the product being sent back to you.
I have not needed to manage those settings myself yet, but will have to shortly, so you will need to look at how it is done.
It may be that Amazon have had the product returned to them and it is back at the fulfilment centre, if this is the case I believe it would then go back into the inventory and possibly be sold again. You need to look it up

Hi all,
Thank you for you prompt responses and advice it is very much appreciated. Hopefully the item will be sent back to the FC but i am not filled with much confidence in this and fear the buyer may have found one of the many situations in which amazon favours buyer over sellers which is discouraging from selling higher value products in the future. I am going to reach out to seller support and hopefully find some more information.
If any more experienced sellers have had this situation occur with Amazon issued refunds via FBA some advice on the best way to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all
Lucas

Just double check the email as I misunderstood one of their email thinking they refunded my money, when in fact they covered the cost… I don’t do FBA. If that’s the case I have never known a company that bribes their such as Amazon… I am not sure if this is good business practice looking at their balance sheet it seems to work. At least they should give their own money not for hard working sellers.

Hi, I experienced the same thing. I don’t use FBA because I don’t have large inventory. In my case a buyer purchased a brand new waffle maker, I shipped it brand new sealed in the original unopened manufacturer box. After two weeks the buyer claimed it’s defective and need to return the item. Amazon emailed me asking to respond to the customer or approve the return. I emailed the customer asking what’s defective about the item, the customer never responded. In another week all I noticed was amazon refunding the buyer because they filed a-z. I tried contacting the customer but was blocked by amazon. Now the customer has been refunded plus they also have the item. This is really unfair to the Seller, it is not right to refund without requesting the customer to return the product. What it does is allowing some dishonest buyers to manipulate and defraud amazon Sellers.

Hi
You can also file a SAFE-T Claim, which can be found in “Orders” Tab.
Hope this helps

I’m I reading this thread right!? FBA returns get refunded after 45 days even if the buyer doesn’t return the item!? Surely this can’t be right!!!

Amazon give the buyer a prepaid label, as soon as that is scanned at a post office a refund is generated immediately. The item will be returned to Amazon warehouse, if the item is not re sellable i think Amazon return it to you with full money, if it is resellable it goes back into inventory.

I have been trading for 3+ years and can confirm with the other posts. Amazon refunds the customer immediatly, and then waits 45 days. If the item has not been returned to Amazon in that time, you as a seller are refunded cost price automatically. You can check your reimbursements and reasons by looking at your FBA report (Reports / Fulfilment By Amazon / Reimbursements). Some items do slip through the net at which point you will then need to open a ticket/case with Amazon and they will check. Wait 45 days first though
Hope this helps but relax, its mostly automated. It does all cost extra (return fees) though and you need to do your calculations and factor this in your costs to see if you are still making a profit
