PSA: Delete old listings/ASINs that you do not plan to sell
Hi all
I’m just creating this post because I had an account health issue due to some old listings that I wasn’t actually selling anymore. Apparently, if you have an old listing on your account that you no longer actively sell, if there’s some sort of problem with that listing you can end up in trouble, even if those listings are inactive! I didn’t know that, and maybe I’m the only one and this was a rookie mistake, but I thought it can’t hurt to create this post. So if you have any inactive listings in your inventory that are not selling, it’s best to delete the listing and prevent future problems, in my case I got into trouble for a listing that was last active in 2017!

I agree. I’ve had issues as well from listings i’ve never even sold, just listed to check fees.

We started doing this about 3 years ago when 7" vinyl records we had sold suddenly started showing again. And of course we would sell it and then not have any in stock to send. We now Delete the listing every time we sell something. Can you imagine head office of WH Smith contacting a branch in Oxford (As an example) saying you had a book in stock 5 years ago that now we don’t want you to sell so we are closing down your branch for 2 weeks. Only on Amazon does this sort of thing happen.

100% agree with this. I said this after I recently deleted 4500+ items. I was brutal and didn’t even consider if I needed them again in the future or not. I did this in response to having a perfect account for well over a decade and the recent account health plunged me (still with 10%'s and 0’s straight across my Acc Health!) to a score of 192 and “at risk”.
It used to be the case that older listings and sales history kept you “Grand Fathered” into catagories but that’s no good if you’re deemed to be the devil for having low sales (on here).
I was constantly getting “Suspected IP” dings for items that I’d last sold in 2012 right through to a few years ago. Again - “suspected” means exactly that and is NOT an IP claim, so I have no idea why these are so toxic to your account. A simple solution is for them to be flagged and you then have XX amount of time to resolve, delete, appeal or you get an actual accont ding.
