Postman left packet in bin and its emptied by council

Hi

We have received this message from customer
“This item was delivered this morning by Royal mail and left in my Grey recycling bin… The bin has been emptied this morning before I got to see the note from royal mail”

Is anyone had this sort of issue before and what is the best course of action. Order was shipped in large letter box via royal mail tracked 48.

Thank you

Put a claim in against RM as they aren’t allowed to leave items in a bin (for this very reason). I’d try and get a photo of the card off the customer as well so you can provide that as evidence

Call their bluff because that’s what it is, and tell them you will ask Royal Mail to conduct a interview with the postman.

Then it should fit through a letterbox and the tracking will show on the rm website whether or not it was delivered or ‘left in a safe place’

Oh and check the buyers postcode against their local council website for bin collection days

This is one of the more common scams employed by unscrupulous buyers but it is important not to pre-judge until you have the evidence you need. The RM scan will show when and where delivered, with GPS coordinates (usually) via their website. As @The_Little_Shop has cleverly said, check their recycling waste collection days (easy to do on the council website for the address). You should then have to two main pieces of evidence you need to start with.

Also call their bluff by saying that item was one that would fit through a letterbox, so no need to leave in a bin.

Ask them to check again and their local council is telling you their bins are collected on a different day.

And there’s another thread on here - exactly the same scenario of postie allegedly leaving parcel in recycling bin. It’s as @Retro_Emporium says, a known scam that has been reported on here previously

Even if it was true - and if this was me ( as a consumer ) - then I would be contacting RM to compensate me. Over the years we have heard the most ridiculous attempts and even have had people telling us RM have just delivered the item at 11PM on a Sunday night. Usually - they neighbour came round with it. Or the husband kept it in the garage and forgot to mention it… or Been in hospital with a terminal illness but Im fine now… to found the groom in bed with my sister so want to return the items 2 years after purchase. The list is endless

They do leave things in bins, where I live you walk down the front of the row of terraces then do the loop round the back so if i’m not in my regular postie leaves the card saying in the back shed then puts it in when he walks round the back. If its not the regular one they leave it in my garden waste bin at the front which infuriates me no end but no way would a postie leave one in a bin thats out for collection. Theyre not stupid…
