Have You Used Sponsored Products Ads?

Hello Sellers,

Sponsored Products ads are one of the most effective ways to increase your product visibility. Here's what you need to know.

📭 Quick Poll: Have you used Sponsored Products ads?

Already using them: Click the "👍" button

Not using them yet: Click the "👎" button

____________________________________________________

Basics of Sponsored Products Ads

For new advertisers, we recommend starting with Sponsored Products ads, which help customers discover and purchase products you sell on Amazon. These ads appear at the top of, alongside, or within shopping results and on product pages, on both desktop and mobile.

Why are Sponsored Products recommended?

  • Easy to start - No complex setup required
  • Budget control - Freedom to set your total spending
  • No monthly fees - No upfront costs or monthly fees
  • Pay-per-click - You only pay when customers click on your ads

On average, advertisers in the United Kingdom who used Sponsored Products saw 48% more sales growth compared to those who didn't, 2 weeks after adoption (Source: Amazon internal data, UK, 2023-09-01 - 2024-08-31. Analysis includes advertisers who spent at least $1).

6 Steps Before Starting Advertising

1️⃣Check Eligibility Requirements

2️⃣Define Your Goals Before starting advertising

  • Increase awareness of new products
  • Increase sales of existing products
  • Differentiating from competitors
  • Promote seasonal products

3️⃣Select Products to Advertise

To get effective results from advertising, choose products that meet these conditions:

  • Competitive pricing
  • Sufficient inventory
  • Positive reviews (if possible)
  • Products with good profit margins

💡 We recommend starting with 2-3 products and expanding as you see results!

4️⃣Optimise Your Product Detail Pages

To maximise advertising effectiveness, optimise your product pages in the following ways:

  • High-quality product images (multiple angles)
  • Compelling titles that include keywords
  • Detailed product descriptions (using bullet points)
  • Search terms that include relevant keywords

💡A product detail page with detailed, high-quality information can increase your chance of making a sale.

5️⃣How Sponsored Products Work - Understand the bidding mechanism

  1. Shoppers see your ad (impression)
  2. You only pay when shoppers click on your ad
  3. Each click deducts your bid amount from your daily budget
  4. The higher your bid and competitiveness, the more likely your ad will be displayed

💡 Understanding how to adjust bids and budgets is key to reaching more shoppers and increasing sales!

6️⃣Create Your First Campaign

Go to the Amazon Ads console “sign-in page" and click "Create campaign".

  1. Pick your products
  2. Give your campaign a name
  3. Set the budget you want (recommended 10£ per day to start)
  4. Select your targeting type (automatic targeting is recommended for beginners)
  5. Choose your bid and launch

Its never worked well for me, I even did a call with an Amazon expert from Amazon, he basically did it all. Spent loads, gained nothing.

Why would I do this vs advertising my own website where I can:

- communicate with my customer

- avoid refund scams and malicious/non factual reviews

- achieve a better margin

- get paid

- know that I won't be arbitrarily put out of business by a broken algorithm

Nothing personal - simple question of incentives.

The trouble is it's costing more than I am earning! How about letting the buyers decide? like we used to! everything on show.

I've always thought of Amazon Ads as being a bit of a scam that just puts up the prices for our customers with Amazon earning more money whilst we do all the work for very little reward.

Are posts like these really necessary in the forum. They rarely engender any meaningful responses and are mostly not in response to identified seller concerns.

These policy guidance posts by Amazon are found in the forum, in the account health pages, in seller university. I can only assume that Amazon think they are necessary because Amazon University pages are so voluminous and contradictory more clarification is required. Or maybe that Seller Central Support has got such a loose grasp of Amazon policy but which they are happy to mis quote, make up or interpret ways that defy understanding.

I notice sellers are now not responding to the constant stream of what sellers must do without the complementary information of what and how Amazon will change to support us. Like me I suspect they are an irrelevant waste of time.

Could go on and suggest topics like

Why does Amazon not enforce customer contact to resolve issues before giving my money away to fake claims or grant AZ claims

OR

Why has Amazon got a one size fits all with punitive metrics that punish me when the endorsed shipping companies are at fault through no fault of my own

OR

Why does Amazon mis categorise my apparel as HAZMAT every tme I get the listing reinstated or suppress the listing without any explanation about what the offending words or terms are ……
