Need to change Surname on account due to Marriage - looking for advice
Hi,
I got married in April 2019 and took a double-barrelled surname with my wife, my Amazon account is still in my original surname and I’ll soon be having my 3 yearly Amazon re-verification in September on my account.
I want to update my Amazon account to reflect my new name, but I’m aware that any changes you make automatically puts you through a re-verification. I would have done this a long time ago but seeing the horror stories on the forums, I’ve been putting it off for as long as possible.
As far as I can see I’ll need to update my surname, supply new driving license to update my account and then replace the charge method and update my bank account information.
My HMRC records have already been updated, as well as my driving license to reflect my new Surname. I’m just about to contact my bank and get my business banking updated also.
Any advice on how I can make this as smooth as possible?
Once I trigger the re-verification, will I be able to continue to sell on Amazon, but not be able to receive disburstments, until I’m fully verified again?
Any help and advice on this would be greatly appreciated, I feel extremely nervous about making these changes in my account.

Get divorced, it would be easier (and probably cheaper in the long run)

Me and hubby are a partnership - we often joke the only thing preventing divorce is the amazon verification

I helped a friend sort his out last year, ID was a nightmare, he has a double barrelled name and uses it as and when he chooses.
He was able to carry on selling but could not draw any money till it was sorted out, this was further complicated by it being a new account and other problems with invoices etc.
Your situation is slightly different, some if not most of your id should relate to the old id / info. Highlight any matching info like tax ref / NI Number etc.
But this is Amazon so prepare for the worst and pray…
PS If they have offered you a loan best take that first and the ongoing sales will pay that off whilst it gets sorted. If it gets sorted quickly then pay off early.

And… I’d do it myself rather than wait for kyc verification

Don’t bother changing anything on amazon. They will simply deactivate your account months after months and say “we are still validating your account. We will let you know when we have finished our verification or need any further information. W are working hard to finish the verification.”
We have requested a change of company information, provided them with all valid documentation still nowhere for last one month.
Hope this will get resolved soon and we can resume selling.

I did this 3 years ago.
I changed all my IDs first and then did it on Amazon. When I clicked the button to change it, I felt physically sick! However, I was re-verified the same day.
(I’m a sole trader if that makes any difference).
I considered not changing my surname at all because of Amazon but it really wasn’t that bad in the end so glad I took the jump haha.

We have been changing bank account details some time ago. Before doing this, I have opened a case with SS to let them know in advance. Then we have simply amended bank account on Amazon and there was no verification at all so it may be worth it to try to follow the same way.

I think you need to have some documents from HMRC and bank statement with the new name.
