Received letter from law firm

Hello all,

I have received a letter through the post from a large American law firm relating to the sale of goods on Amazon UK of a certain brand. They state they can not identify me as a business partner and legal action will be taken if necessary. They ask for me to e-mail them by tomorrow the source of my products.

How do I know this is genuine? And how should I proceed? Thank you all

Are all the asins you list on the correct Brand?
Are you buying that particular brand from a trusted source?
Are you able to name the brand ?

It probably is genuine. An American Conpany mixed me up with another seller on eBay and I started to getting emails asking me to prove supply chains of products and that I was a valid reseller.

In the end it was resolved when they finally realised I wasn’t the company in question.

What legal action are they threatening? Are you a business partner for the brand? Have you googled the law firm to see if they exist and act for the brand in question?

Yes listed on correct brand, ordered directly from the brand themselves, sorry I would like to disclose the brand name. Is it likely to be a legitimate letter? Thank you for your responses

I wouldn’t worry that much about a threats from lawyers especially from an overseas country, if you are not doing something illegal. Amazon and Ebay is a store but still a marketplace… If they want to protect the brand there is a legitimate way doing this via Amazon and a legitimate way of contacting someone before sending a threatening email. Especially from a law firm… I agree with others, contact the brand. I would not contact these lawyers on an email.

Delete your account ASAP as they have your address and all necessary details. Its important to be seen to be acting proactively before Amazon passes information on to law enforcement

“to e-mail them by tomorrow” has alarm bells ringing for me. Feels like a high-pressure tactic. Has the letter come from the US? Is it tracked?

First thing I’d do is check it’s legitimate. What’s the email address they ask you to email? Will you post it here? Obscure the first few letters or whatever. Is it clearly their address, and not an unrelated email, or one with a slight misspelling? Also, Google the telephone numbers on the letter to check they match.

As Little Shop said, then speak to the brand. If you’re an official reseller, then they will be able to help.

You need to find a solicitor in the UK who deals with this type of litigation who can point you in the right direction
U S Law firms are notorious for assuming people are guilty before any evidence
There is the element of scare tactics if you are given such a small time frame to respond
Do you have any idea Who is going to read your response ?
Good luck

I was thinking Retail Arbitrage, I hope my thinking is wrong.

Had a similar issue a couple of years ago. Buying the items from a wholesalers and we sold them on amazon. American law firm got in touch saying we weren’t an approved online seller. Allowed to sell the items in our physical shop but not allowed to online. safe to say we don’t sell them in our shop or online now. Jokers
