How to obtain a Product ID
I am a new seller listing products for the first time.
a) Does it already exist on Amazon? - when I search Amazon’s catalogue by product description, there are over 500,000 search results - impossible to search. When searching by description on Amazon’s main page, none of the products match exactly (slight difference in design &/or dimensions)
b) Therefore, assuming this product is NOT currently sold, I need to obtain a product ID which is proving to be problematic. The Chinese manufacturer says the UK buyer provides to them a product ID or code. Also I am not eligible for an product Id exemption because my product is not a private label product and I have no selling history
Any advice on how to solve this much appreciated.

By a product ID, Amazon means manufacturer’s EAN, UPC, JAN or ISBN code.
If you are selling generic unbranded Chinese items from Alibaba, firstly make sure that they don’t infringe on anyone’s intellectual property rights (which is very unlikely) and then create your own listings.
Because matching your generic items against someone else’s established, top selling private label listings will most likely cause you serious problems.
Also, new sellers are often subject to random account reviews and asked to submit invoices, this is the main reason why you should leave selling items from China for later.
