More Inventory Related Shenanighans
Ok, so over the past few months, in it’s wisdom, the Amazon stock management system has allowed orders to be placed for goods that are out of stock. Just as we thought that it was corrected, last night we received orders for goods that are not only out of stock but also have a status of closed.
We’ve obviously raised a case, but anybody else experienceing this again?

I haven’t received orders for anything that is out of stock recently but I was attracted to your post purely on the word shenanigans. I love using that word…
Just to ask have you checked on the listing to see if the products are available for sale. Have you checked other marketplaces in the EU? Sometimes you get it were a listing in say Sweden is showing a bit of stock that has carried over and then not reduced. If you then access the Swedish Amazon for example from the UK, a customer is unwittingly seeing a translated version of Amazon and since you are in the UK, it will be available for you to buy it. Only a theory but I did have something of this nature with Italy after I thought I had it on holiday mode happen to me a few years back so I am just a bit more wise to it now.
This will almost be certainly impossible to deal with through seller support, you know the drill.

I used to have this quite often. It normally happens where I have an FBA listing and an FBM listing (with zero stock). The item will be available to FBM customers at the FBA price.
It can normally be fixed by changing the FBA listing to FBM and then changing it back.
I have spent hours with seller support. They simply refuse to even understand the problem let alone find a solution. They also refuse to help with the fallout of the problem.
It is very frustrating. Fortunately it hasn’t happened for a while so I was hoping it was fixed.

Well, needless to say, the response from seller support was useless. They can see that the item is out of stock and closed, but they can also see that it’s an FBM item and as such they can see no problem:
I’ve done some more spade work and found the root cause and kicked the issue back at them. Not expecting a positive reply though.
FWIW, the problem is that even if you zero stock in seller central, and close the item, so that the stock is reported to be zero, the ASIN is still available for sale. This is because the stock figure is not pulling through from the main inventory page in seller central to the ASIN product card. (If that makes sense.)

And one final update…SS have now come back stating that they cannot fix it and that the only solution is to delete the product.
If this happens in bulk it’s going to be a nightmare. especially with all of the RM related tomfoolery going on.
