Hi everyone,
We’ve just had yet another frustrating experience that I’m sure many of you can relate to. A customer recently returned a product directly to us but what we received was not the item they purchased. It was a product that he bought last year from us, confirmed that from the serial number, and in terrible used condition. Despite this, they were granted a full refund, and our Order Defect Rate (ODR) has been impacted.
All our products come with unique serial numbers, so we can confidently verify when something has been swapped or tampered with. But none of this seems to matter. The system still sides with the buyer, and we’re left absorbing the loss.
This has happened many times with FBA returns, we receive our boxes with different products but still, they customers are getting a full refund. No one seems to care, it's our money.
We’ve tried escalating the issue, but the responses from Seller Support are consistently unhelpful—automated, dismissive, or simply not acknowledging the facts. As sellers investing thousands of euros each year, it’s incredibly disheartening to be treated as expendable while scammers take advantage of the platform.
What makes this even more infuriating is that we sell on other marketplaces as well—where fraud is rare, returns are properly checked, and we aren’t left footing the bill for deceitful behavior. Amazon is the only platform where we’re regularly losing money because of returns and scams.
This is not just about one return. It’s about the lack of protection for honest sellers and the long-term impact this has on our businesses. If a buyer can send back random items and get a refund without consequence, what’s the point of even having return policies or tracking measures?
