Confirming shipment for Royal Mail Large letter Post
I’m sure I’ve seen an answer on here somewhere, so apologies if repeated. Although Amazon’s requirements here are constantly “evolving”…
I use Royal mail for posting books, either small parcel or large letter. for the former there is a usable tracking number, but for large letter I have been putting them as Stamps/Franking as per previous advice.
However, I have been alerted to the fact that there is a 16- digit PRN number ( with hyphens) above the QR code on LL, so even if this is not tracked, should I now enter Royal mail First class as the delivery method and this as the reference?
As a side issue, my VTR is 0% despite confirming all items via stamps/franking or by the RM parcel ref number. And my payments are delayed until doomsday, or the arrival of the extended Amazon delivery date, whichever should come first. Not sure what I can do about either of these.
I continue to follow Kurt Vonnegut’s advice about letters, so will keep using my local post office in place of buying through Amazon,
Thanks, Henry

You only need to enter the number if you are sending via a tracked method. If it is not tracked then do not enter any numbers.
How long ago did you start using the Stamps/Franking option ?
If you do send parcels, then using Amazon’s Buy Shipping is cheaper than the PO - £3.00 v £3.20 at PO. (LL prices the same), and also using ‘buy shipping’ will validate all your shipments and you will eventually end up with either 100% if you send any tracked, or N/A if all untracked. No need to manually confirm shipment, or enter any numbers - simply enter the parcel info (weight and size), choose what method you want, print of the shipping label and take to the PO for a proof of posting receipt.

Hi Jilly, thanks for your input. I think I started using stamps/franking about a month ago, but I’ve has Covid since and can’t remember squit…
Funny thing is, my VTR is still zero, but the number of problem items on the Excel file has diminished slowly from 6 to 3 ( one I think because I’d not put in the ref number) almost as if they get knocked off when the delivery date becomes due…I’m getting very long money retention times off Amazon too, makes me think I should be confirming delivery somewhere else?
What I can’t work out is why a zero VTR? if some are ok and some not, youd expect a percentage of some sort, 50% or 75% or whatever?
cheers, H
