Seeking Experience: Pending “Verification Required for Tax Purposes”

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for experience and advice from fellow Amazon sellers stuck in the Verification required for tax purposes pending review. This is a widespread account compliance review affecting the majority of sellers currently.

I submitted all complete and valid business documents on August 25, 2026. My review status has been pending for over 15 days, with 40 days left until the compliance deadline.

I have contacted seller support multiple times for updates and escalation. The consistent reply is that Amazon is facing severe internal review backlogs, and no manual priority or acceleration is available for individual seller cases.

The current fixed deadline policy is very rigid. All review delays stem from Amazon’s internal processing backlog, yet sellers face strict account compliance deadlines with no official grace period.

This issue brings significant operational risks. I have large volumes of FBA inventory in transit. Failure to complete the review on time may lead to sales restrictions, fund withholding and blocked inventory reception, causing unnecessary financial losses for compliant sellers.

Nearly all sellers I know are facing the same long-pending review situation. I would really appreciate it if you could share your review progress, timeline and any effective solutions in the comments.

Thank you all for sharing and helping!

It's terrible. I've already issued Amazon with a Letter Before Action, which I sent around three days after this issue began.

The problem was never the verification process itself. The issue is that Amazon chose to update my tax status and incorrectly classify me as a non-UK established seller before the verification is even complete. As a result, they started adding VAT to my sales. What's particularly frustrating is that Amazon's own FAQ states they would only make this change if a seller fails to respond within 60 days. In reality, I responded promptly on day 1— it is Amazon who have failed to respond.

My sales have collapsed as a result. I attempted to increase my prices to offset the additional 20% VAT that Amazon wrongly applied, but Amazon then deemed my prices uncompetitive. My sales have fallen from thousands of pounds to around £200 over the past two weeks.

They have effectively destroyed my business, and I intend to pursue legal action to recover my losses. I wish I could offer some advice, but at the moment I'm still fighting to get Amazon to correct their mistake.

They have gone awfully quiet on this

The "Verification required for tax purposes" review is part of Amazon's ongoing account compliance programme in the UK marketplace. Amazon is required to verify seller business information and tax documentation to comply with HMRC regulations (including obligations under the Finance Act and Online Sales Tax / VAT compliance frameworks).

As you and many other sellers have noted, this review cycle is affecting a large number of UK sellers simultaneously, which has resulted in significant internal processing backlogs on Amazon's side.

Why the Delay

Based on what sellers and Seller Support have consistently reported:

  • Amazon's verification teams are processing an unusually high volume of submissions during this compliance window.
  • Reviews are handled in the order they are received, and there is currently no mechanism to manually prioritise or accelerate individual cases.
  • Even when documents are complete and valid, the review may take longer than the typical 2–5 business day window due to the backlog.

This is not a reflection of any issue with your submission — it is a capacity and volume challenge on Amazon's end.

What You Can Do in the Meantime

  • Verify your submission is complete – Log in to Seller Central and navigate to Settings > Account Info > Tax Information. Confirm that all required documents show as "Submitted" with no outstanding requests or error messages.
  • Do not resubmit documents – Uploading duplicate or replacement documents while a review is pending can reset your position in the queue and cause further delays. Only resubmit if explicitly asked to do so by Amazon.
  • Keep a record of your timeline – Document your submission date (August 25, 2026), all Seller Support interactions, and case IDs. This creates a clear paper trail should you need to escalate or dispute any account actions taken during the review period.
  • Monitor your Account Health dashboard – Check regularly for any new notifications, requests for additional information, or status changes related to the verification.Prepare a contingency plan for your FBA inventory – If you have shipments in transit, consider whether it is possible to pause or redirect future inbound shipments until your verification clears, to minimise the risk of inventory being stranded.
  • Request a formal escalation – While Seller Support has indicated that manual acceleration is not available, you can still request that your case be escalated to the Account Health or Compliance team for visibility. Use the following path: Help > Get Support > Selling on Amazon > Account Health.

We understand the frustration with the rigid deadline policy. While Amazon has not officially announced a blanket grace period for this review cycle, it is worth noting:

  • In previous large-scale compliance reviews, Amazon has in some cases applied automatic extensions when systemic delays were identified — though this is not guaranteed.
  • If your account is impacted by a restriction solely due to Amazon's processing backlog (and not due to incomplete or invalid documents), you may have grounds to appeal any resulting restrictions by referencing your timely submission and the documented backlog.

Thank you for your patience, and we hope your verification is completed well before your deadline.
