Have been told by SS I can't use Debit Card
Hi,
We got an email from Amazon telling us our charge method was no longer valid (have been using debit card for years). Tried to change to partners debit card, same business, same billing address etc. That was also refused. Called seller support they told me Amazon only accepts Credit Cards and not debit cards. When I asked for where this policy comes from can he point me to where it says it, he pointed me to;

There there’s no mentioned of debit cards being accepted and only the words credit card are used. When I mentioned we had been using a debit card for years he said well now you need to use a charging method that will be accepted. I thought it was rather strange. Wondering if anyone else has had this experience. No access to account until valid credit card it provided.

Was wondering as Amazon has said they wont be accepting Mastercard debit so thought it might be that. Hope it isnt a policy they are starting to enforce as all our company cards are debit cards as well.

Visa credit cards = ok for Amazon selling platform fees (charge method within Settings > Payment Information > Charge Method). Not ok for buying goods on Amazon.
Visa debit = ok for everything.
I think.

There have been a number of issues with various card issuers the past few days with authorisations timing out, the worst I have encountered was cards issued by Lloyds on Tuesday, some went through on retry, all with regular customers who checked accounts and could see the pending transactions which never went through to the handler and are not showing as pending on my side, should all reset today.

They have never amended that for years, it’s always said Credit Card, but most use Debit cards, and even the forum mods here and Amazon themselves have confirmed many many times a debit card is acceptable.
The reason it says Credit Card, is because Visa and Mastercard are Credit card companies. So technically a card bearing Visa, Mastercard or American Express is issued by a credit card company.
Seller Support also don’t know the difference and can’t tell if you are using a Credit Card or Visa card, it’s Amazon Payments that decide if your card is acceptable or not, some cards whether debit or credit just won’t work with Amazon.
You need to make sure the debit card has money in the account, you also need to ensure that you don’t have any blocks on that card, in most mobile apps nowadays you can restrict certain transactions. Some banks don’t process the Amazon pre-auth correctly. Unless your current debit card has expired, just reuse that.

We had the same problem. Were using a debit card a charge method with no problems. Suddenly “Credit Card Invalid” and no access to the account. But soon as we obtained a credit card and entered its information - everything was all right.
I advise you to get the cheapest credit card you can that supports “0 verification”.

We’ve had this for our accounts in Canada and America a few days ago. Suddenly can’t access disbursements or accounts (but they’re still keeping the listings open for sales!!).
We only have one Visa Debit card and have checked all details are matching which they are. Really don’t want a credit card!!

Thanks everyone for your replies. It seems it may be something they’re going to implement it’s difficult to know really.
I hear you andrew_james_books1, that’s what I thought initially but if other people are experiencing the same thing…I don’t know. I am going to call back next week and get confirmation that it is a rule and will try post back here.
It’s just frustrating it not being clear and with no real explanation as to why. We’re going to get a company credit card now and we’ll take it from there.

So what Amazon is saying is this.
If you get into financial trouble and have no money in your account we are unable to charge your debit card.
However, we would be able to plunge you into further debt by charging your credit card.
