Using manufacturer barcodes rather than Amazon barcodes

I do not own the brand and so Amazon is telling me I have to use their barcodes and print labels to apply to the products or have Amazon do it. The costs are pretty random and have recently doubled overnight. Applying the labels ourselves is time-consuming. It says you can have the brand owner register the asin for virtual tracking but I can't find any information anywhere as to how they would go about this. If I can approach the manufacturer with specific instructions as to how they go about this I will have a better chance of getting them on board.

Hello @Seller_NlhCOuJNd5Po3,

I'm Sarah with Amazon.

Have you had the chance to take a look at this help page?

"If you are unable to apply the barcodes yourself, you can check if your products are eligible for the FBA Label Service and have Amazon apply the labels for you for a per-item fee."

"If you are the product manufacturer or brand owner, and you want to print barcodes directly onto the product packaging, apply for your own GS1 standard UPC barcode."

In addition, you might also find these seller discussions on the topic insightful:

Changing Manufacturer barcodes to Amazon Barcode

Using Amazon provided ASIN barcode as Manufacturer Barcode

Kind regards,

Sarah.

I assume virtual tracking is possibly referring to Comingling of stock and using the manufacturers barcode instead of the amazon FBA barcode.

So, does the product have a manufacturers barcode? Because if it doesn't, then the manufacturer would have to go through brand registry and buy barcodes from GS1 - which, if they aren't already doing that, would seem an unlikely prospect.
