I can't close my account
I had an old seller account on Amazon which I hadn’t used properly in years and in Nov 2021 I tried to put my new book on it (and failed) so decided to open a brand new account instead. My brand new account is fully verified and was working, but now my old account and my brand new account have both been deactivated as there are two accounts in my business name.
I’m trying but completely failing to delete the old account. Why do I have to reactivate the old account when I just want to delete it? I don’t know what I need to do to reactivate the old account and all the automated emails telling me my account is deactivated and not giving me straightforward answers are so frustrating and time wasting.

It isn’t so much having two accounts that is the issue, it is having one of them deactivated which is causing the issue. Essentially Amazon don’t like a seller with a deactivated account having another account open and selling.
Did you have a specific issue with your old account? It sounds like you still have access if you tried to add your book - it could be as simple as verifying bank / charge method.

Because that’s how Amazon works, unfortunately. It’s possible that Amazon have set the status of your old account to “dormant”.
Was the old account fully verified and operational?

I am in the same exact predicament!
I have requested my first personal account to be closed but it cannot be closed till its reactivated.
I have had 0 replies for over 3 weeks now and I even got charged for both accounts last week when I can’t even sell

You wouldn’t able to delete or close an account once it is in suspended status.
To reactivate your secondary account, you need to reactivate the Primary account.
Please go through the Performance notification and share the notification you received at the time of account suspension, so that we can help you in a better way.

From the thread, I could understand that both of the accounts got linked to each other and are now deactivated.
As per the policy, a seller cannot hold multiple accounts with same information.
It is prohibited on the platform as per our policy guidelines of having multiple accounts.

To address the issues on both the accounts, you should follow the below steps:
- Complete the verification on your old account and get it reactivated.
- Follow the information received in the performance notification which you have shared and follow the steps to reactivate your account.
- As per the Performance notification, confirm the legal entity and the scope of business.
- If you still have questions regarding this, you can reach out to the appropriate team by a click here
- Once the account gets activated, you can put an account closure request by a click here
- You can continue with the selling account with which you intend to sell and close another account
I understand that you are willing to just close the old account, but as per the policy this would not be possible.
You should get the old account activated and verified, then you can close it and continue selling from another account.
