Restricted Products - Clarification appreciated

Hi there,

I’ve recently been hit by a spate of Restricted Product Notifications without any clear reasoning as to why these products are restricted - the most recent example said “This product is not allowed for sale on Amazon”. One of the products that was in this list as being marked as restricted was the following:

B07NGQT5YS - War Drawing Bomber Plane 1936 Wellington UK Cutaway Art Print Framed Poster Wall Decor 12X16 inch

The product above is an illustration of a plane from World War 2. There are no offensive symbols on the plane. I currently have an active case challenging this removal (case id 6441895102)

I’d really appreciate some clarification on why these products are deemed restricted and some more detailed guidelines on which products will potentially be deemed offensive as the policy guidelines are very broad.

Most of our restricted products have had the words “War” or “Propaganda” in them. The vast majority of them are Recruitments posters or photos from the war and contain no graphic or offensive imagery. Whenever I open a case on the subject I simply am told “these products are restricted”.

I deal primarily in art over a very broad range of subject matter so I have had to try and guess what the root cause is and have had to pre-emptively take thousands of products down globally, many of which seem to make no sense to take down, as the recent addition of the Account Health Rating has made this a constant source of stress within my team. Our rule is that account health is king.

This has become an issue this year, once the pandemic started. When the pandemic began we started seeing scores of our art products with the words “Mask” or “toilet” removed en-masse. Now we are seeing similar behaviour with words like “propaganda”

Thanks in advance for your support

I had 20 video games removed yesterday; they were all racing/driving games,

I can only think the word Speed or Nitrous Oxide was somewhere in one of the descriptions or bulletpoints on one of the amazon websites (I say websites as the same 20 titles were removed from each separate country including US and AU) - 3/4 of the titles were previously sold by Amazon Retail and they product pages were created/managed by the Amazon catalogue team.

Hi Fine_Art_Print_UK,

There are certain policies that Amazon expects its sellers to follow while operating on the platform, Restricted Products Policy is one among the many policies.

To better understand this policy we would recommend that you visit our help pages in Seller central and browse through the restricted product policy page.

This page contains the definition along with category wise examples that are considered to be restricted items on the platform.

As items are categorized into restricted category based on the marketplace and Amazon’s individual policy governing that marketplace, it is advisable to also check external sites to better understand what products are not allowed in the marketplace you are operating.

Once the due – diligence and understanding of the policy is made, please response to seller performance team with a plan of action by highlighting the below points:
• Acknowledgement of violations
• Root cause analysis/identification
• Proactive steps that will be taken to maintain compliance

For further details on the policy please visit https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/201743940

Hope this was helpful,

Regards,
Amar

sounds daft but it could be the word ‘bomber’

i know there were some sellers on here last year who had listings kicked off for the word fur even though it wasn’t fur

i even had some Ivory confetti petals restricted as ‘Ivory’ is a prohibited item !!
