New faster transit time shipping

as if things couldnt get any worse right now regarding deliveries etc!

Hello,

We are excited to announce a new feature in your shipping templates that allows you to offer faster delivery to close proximity customers on your domestic standard shipping orders. Amazon will divide the current standard shipping delivery template into smaller regions so that you can set a faster transit time for orders with ship-to location in the same region as your default ship-from location. For example, if you are based in Greater London and shipping to a customer in Greater London, you will now have the option to choose a faster transit time of 1-2 days as opposed to the existing default transit time of 2-3 days.

A new shipping rule will be created with faster transit time options for nearby deliveries, and there will be no change in the transit times that you have already set for domestic and international shipping. We will automatically update your existing standard shipping templates with the new shipping rule between May 10, 2021, and May 21, 2021, with a faster transit time of 1-2 days. If you do not want the faster transit option, you can opt out by editing the transit time for the new shipping rule before May 10, 2021.

What is the benefit of this change?

Customers are more likely to purchase products that have a faster delivery promise. By enabling faster transit time options in your shipping templates, you will have an opportunity to provide a faster delivery promise to nearby customers. If you are unable to offer a faster transit time to these customers, you can change transit time options for the new shipping rule at any time.

How do I activate the new shipping rule for faster transit times?

Starting April 20, 2021, you can edit your existing standard shipping templates or create new templates with the new shipping rule.

To create or edit your templates, follow these steps:

o Sign in to your Seller Central account and click Settings-> Shipping Settings

o Click on shipping templates and select the standard shipping template for which you want to enable faster transit time.

o Click “Edit” template. You should see a new shipping rule created with faster transit time options. Review and adjust transit times.

o Save the template.

For any new template that you create after April 20, 2021, a new shipping rule with a faster transit time is created by default and no manual update is required.

How can I opt out of the faster transit time feature for nearby customers?

If you are unable to offer faster transit times to nearby customers, you have two options to opt out:

(1) Between April 20, 2021, and May 10, 2021, manually edit your standard shipping templates to activate the new shipping rule and update the default transit time; or
(2) After May 21, 2021, you can edit your standard shipping templates at any time and adjust the transit time as required.

Is this a London thing?

I’m not aware of any couriers here in the sticks offering reduced delivery times for even delivering next door.

I also noticed yesterday you can change the default handling time from 2 to 1 days…I don’t recall ever being able to change the default handling time before.

I have looked at my templates and I can now set up 1-2 day shipping time for the whole of the West Midlands which is a fairly big area.

Unless you are doing delivery yourself I really don’t know of any delivery service which promises quicker delivery time because you are geographically near by.

This is, of course - because its Amazon - a nonsense.
First of all define “local”. A customer in Lewes (Sussex) may well be defined as local as it is just 7 miles from me BUT is in a different sorting office area. Any shipments I make will
A) go to Burgess Hill area sorting office - as do all my shipments
B) go on to Gatwick sorting
C) then back down to Brighton
D) then to local Lewes sorting office for final delivery

Any shipment I make will as likely get to Arbroath (540 miles) in exactly the same time as to Lewes (7 miles).

I’ll be doing that one! It’s just another stick to beat us with. Feeling pretty bruised by VTR, so don’t need bruises on my bruises.

This makes little sense. It is possible that, say, 2nd class mail to an address close to me might arrive a day more more quickly than it does to somewhere outside my immediate postal area, but all 2nd class royal Mail is supposed to arrive within 2 days anyway. Most of the orders I get are not local, so advertising the fact that I am not local to a potential buyer won’t improve my sales but may rather discourage buyers who think that a purchase from me will be slower! Claiming that a local order will be faster when it will be dealth with by Royal Mail in the same way as any other order just opens us up to claims of late delivery.
Are these annoying ‘improvements’ really meant to get us to move over to FBA?

I do wish Amazon would stop fiddling with everything. I assume they have some highly paid staff who need to make suggestions to justify their existence. Furthermore, I can’t even be bothered to read most of the drivel they issue. I suspect I shall not be trading on Amazon much longer, it is just too much hassle.
