How does shipping work for individual accounts?

Hi.
First of all, apologies if this has already been asked but I’m really struggling to get my head around this and support keep on giving me a generic reply. I’m quite new to selling on Amazon even though I’ve had an account for 12 months (I found it too time consuming last time so I gave up selling on here but I thought I’d give it another go).

Anyway, I don’t know if I’m being really stupid but I don’t understand how shipping / postage works for an individual account (when I had a professional account a year ago, I could set my own shipping which was fine - I know this isn’t possible with an individual account).

As I understand it for an individual account, I sell my item, amazon charge my customer whatever they charge for shipping and then Amazon credit my account with the shipping cost - is that correct?
If that’s correct, why doesn’t Amazon just allow free shipping for individual accounts? I’ve asked support that question but just got yet another generic answer which didn’t help at all :frowning:

Have I got this right or am I missing something?
TIA

Yes thats correct - amazon set the shipping with a shipping credit to you and you then need to work out the actual cost of shipping and packaging and adjust your item selling price accordingly

If you are selling 34 or more items a month you are better on the pro plan where as you know, you can set your own

Amazon I believe have had the same amount for shipping credits for many years and I’ve not seen anything anywhere that indicates they’ll change it

Seller Support can’t possible answer that question. They can barely answer basic questions.

Amazon have chosen to not allow individual selling plan subscribers offer free shipping. It’s all part of their strategy. The reasons behind this decision are for them to know and for us to guess.

If you are on the Individual Selling PLAN then you have to go with Amazon’s default shipping charge, which is different for each category.

You would not have had a professional ACCOUNT - it would have been the Professional Selling Plan where you pay £30 a month fee, and can set your own shipping charge.

Not exactly, as they take their cut from the shipping credit.

Are you planning on selling items for profit ?
If so, have you registered with HMRC as self-employed and provided Amazon with your UTR and have a Business Seller Account ?
On the Individual account (not the Individual selling plan ) you can ONLY sell off your own personal second-hand items, not new goods.
