What actually happens when we fill out the minimum and maximum price?

I currently have Amazon's automated pricing setup to match the buy box, however, I don't want the automated pricing to go below the minimum price I've set on the Manage Inventory page. Does the automated pricing tool take the minimum and maximum prices I've set into account? Thanks.
