Help needed please Tax info
I’m a bit stumped on this one.
We are UK and Pan EU sellers, but also have a US account which has been untouched for years.
When I login to the account, we are not setup as a professional account, it just says individual. I don’t like changing things unless I have to.
So I received this email from Amazon recently:
A new W-8BEN or W-BEN-E is required
Hello,
Your W-8 form will expire on December 31st 2020. Once your form expires, your selling privileges will be suspended until you provide updated information.
What you need to do:
- In your Seller account, go to Settings and choose Account
- At the bottom of the page, click Tax Information
- Click Update Tax Information
- Answer all questions to complete the Tax Interview
- Provide an e-signature for fastest validation
You may be required to complete and mail a hard copy form depending on your interview entries or if you do not consent to provide an electronic signature.
NOTE: If you’ve already provided updated tax information in the last 72 hours, no further action is required.
Helpful tips:
You’ll be asked to provide a Tax Identification Number (TIN), if you have one. If you don’t have a U.S. TIN, you may provide the income tax identification number issued by your country of residence
Thank you,
Seller Support
…
I’m concerned that if I go ahead and confirm that we are still individual, then that isn’t correct, because we are a business, albeit a UK business, not a US LLC. Does that matter?
I’ve asked a couple of well respected Amazon sellers, who gave contradictory information.
Am I right to go ahead and confirm that we are indeed a business? And is this likely to create some sort of re-verification back on the UK/EU side too? I’ve done that only a few months ago for the umpteenth time.
Anyone else had this? I am planning on selling on the US platform FBA, sometime next year, which I know won’t be straight forward, but can’t be any more complicated than PAN EU
Happy New Year!

That will likely be the Individual (Basic) Selling Plan as opposed to the Professional Plan where you pay a monthly fee.
This is different to the Individual Selling account (the legal entity) as opposed to a Business Account.
(an Individual account is for selling off your own personal second-hand items, not for trading ie. buying items to sell on)
