Delivery To Student Accommodation
Hello
It is my first time of posting although been selling a few years in a small way.
Last week I sold an item and on looking up the address, I found it to be a large student complex. I sent a few questions and was told it would be delivered to a reception desk and then collected from there. The buyer was responsive and polite and I was on verge of posting. They even said I could cancel purchase if I was not happy. On reflection, it was possibly reverse psychology to get me to trust them. I cancelled the order though as the buyers name appeared unlike a normal name.
Relisted the item and two days later, it sold again. Another student accommodation complex in another part of the country with a questionable buyers name. It may be a coincidence but I a suspicious. Reassurance from the buyer that I am covered means nothing as I know once RM deliver I have no cover and Amazon will refund the buyer if they claim not received.
I have not seen any recent postings on student accommodation hence my post but interested in whether other sellers are coming across this time of purchase. Perhaps I am being over suspicious but it could also be a widespread organised scam.

I think you may be over thinking it. Students often order items from Amazon and mostly they are delivered to a reception area when delivering to Student Accommodation. Then the items are dispersed out to the residents or the residents pick it up.
The name being unusual may just be because it is a foreign student.
I really don’t see how the scam would work if it was one. As you know it is student accommodation it has to be delivered to the name of the person, if they have given a false name then the only person really in on the scam would be those who dealt with the parcels.

My daughter is off to halls of residence in September and orders from amazon several times a week
I hope her orders don’t get cancelled…

I am always reluctant to cancel an order but 2 orders in the space of one week, both for the same item, worth nearly £200 from student accommodation makes me suspicious. If it was a low value item I might be less concerned. If someone wanted to run a scam they could do it from any MDU, that has a reception to receive items. Once Royal Mail deliver to reception and have a signature, protection with them ends. If someone then claims not to have not received it then Amazon nearly always side with the buyer and refund them then left to seller to try and sort out. I used to be more trusting but it has cost me in the past.

Removing the item would indeed prevent any further cancellations. No need to cancel orders if no one can make an order to begin with. Is this a used camera lens of yours by any chance?
You may already be really close to account issues if your first post is accurate. Be very careful before cancelling again.

There is a code of honour amongst students which takes about 3 months to establish. If the order is recent, it is highly likely to be a carrier issue rather than theft. They (students) are usually young and know the importance of honesty, especially about getting stuff, as they mostly buy online.
It could also be mispigeoned, and that student is not there for some reason and may still find its way.

I have had a nightare with student accommodation, but I don’t cancel I just pay extra and always send tracked and never had a problem when doing it that way.

If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t post it. Cancel what you like, end of the day its your money at risk and amazon don’t own you. Too many people on here seem to just big this lot up, but remember if it goes to A-Z they WILL refund and not care about you in the slightest. Being frightened to death about metrics is ridiculous, I’d rather not be out of pocket.

i sell on amazon and i have worked for amazon Flex also. normally i worked as delivery driver i would contact buyer and buyer would come to Mailroom . if i had too many parcels then i would leave parcels in Mail room. i guess there will be a CCTV there so students will be cautious not to steal but there’s possibility . but that possibility is for normal locations also where driver leave parcel in safe place but later you find out someone stole it or buyer refuse to accept they received it. so many possibilities . best is Avri. you get a photo proof for delivery .

All depend on the value. My Son in Durham says for high value items AMZ will provide them with a code then this code is given to driver. The recipient needs to be there on the day of delivery. As for the other one in Norwich the same process apply depending on the size of the parcel. Small parcels are sent to residencies home and large items are left to be collected from the mail room. Just beware of any postcode beginning with EH12
