SDS (MSDS) for custom made products

Hello,

I plan to sell a couple of items using FBA, of which I would be making up myself as a ‘kit’. These items include a small bottle of liquid which is a very low hazard risk substance.

I believe I would need to submit a MSDS for these items. I have the MSDS document from the manufacturer of the liquid, however this obviously doesn’t match the ‘product title’ that I intend to use on Amazon (which is required by Amazon to accept a valid MSDS).

Could anyone advise if it is OK for me to replicate the MSDS document I have from the manufacturer, and to include the same information as provided by the manufacturer regarding the liquid (which is obviously accurate and valid), and including the ‘supplier’ details [as the manufacturer themselves], but modified with my product name/details on there under the ‘identification’ section of the sheet?

Thank you in advance for any help.

In other words can you “Doctor” the certificate to suit your needs?
Absolutely not, it would count as a fabricated document and be invalid.

I wasn’t planning to ‘doctor’ anything a such, but to asking if it was possible to ‘create’ my own MSDS from scratch and ‘include’/‘replicate’ just the ‘information’ regarding the ‘material’ I wish to include, of which is ‘exactly’ what is covered in the MSDS I have from the manufacturer already.

Section 1 of the document covers; Supplier/Manufacturer/Product identification, the other sections are about the material in question itself.

The small bottle of liquid is the only thing which would need to be covered by an MSDS, everything else is excluded.

It would be impossible for me to get this information from anywhere else except the manufacturer of the material.

I have searched online and there are guides as to how to generate these MSDS’s yourself, so I assume this is something that is possible, however I wish to ensure it is done in the correct way.

Any advice welcomed. Thank you.

After looking at many other MSDS documents - they simply include the manufacturer, supplier, product name and then the information regarding the hazardous material included. They are pretty simple and straight forward, when you remove the ‘specifics’ (ingredients, flash point, boiling point, storage and transport info, etc) of the liquid itself. I have no way to provide the ‘specifics’ other than what is already provided from the manufacturer already. I do not manufacture this liquid therefore I cannot provide this information from us directly.

Most of the sections of the manufacturers document state the material is non hazardous or very low risk.

Various other sellers are selling similar items via FBA which include the same liquid in the same manor.

I have spoken to someone at FBA support who has advised I should provide the manufacturer MSDS sheet I have and send an Exemption Sheet for the item, which can be ‘collated’.

I wish to ensure that I provide what is the best solution possible to avoid any issues or delays, hence doing further research - one aspect of which was to ask you friendly bunch on here, some of who’m I figured may already have similar experience

I am not sure why you would suggest an insurer would not touch us with a bargepole, but we have an insurance policy already in place which covers everything we do. I am not looking for insults into my company, I’m simply trying to gather information as to what is required.

Thank you.

I have this problem as I buy oils in bulk then rebrand (Which Im insured to do) - honetly its like pulling teeth but youll get there in the end - 1 took me 2 months to get passed as “computer says no” MSDS doesnt match! As you dont say what the liquid is and you say its non hazardous just go straight to filling in an exemption sheet (Ive now found that easier) - Theres one there for me thats cosmetic but youll have to look if theres one that applies to you (theyre on the right hand page of the upload MSDS page) - Upload Exemption sheet, Then open a case to say that youve uploaded the exemption pdf sheet and please pass to compliance (ask them not to close the case til settled) Then Wait and wait and wait…1 month later and replies from Seller support copy and pasting “please upload the MSDS sheet” you may get there - Fingers crossed youll get it passed before Xmas lol…

I’m assuming you just want to use a product that you have purchased from a supplier and make sure their branding isn’t on the MSDS?

If so, the best thing to do is to speak with the manufacturer of the specific product, they may be able to issue you with an unbranded version of the MSDS or one you can add your own logo and company name to, we do this with products we sell and have complete transparency with the manufacturer of what legally needs to be on the MSDS and what parts can be branded so as to not reveal your supplier.

This is a very common thing to do but you really do need to speak with the manufacturer of the piece that needs it.

Don’t change the MSDS at all unless you have been advised that you can as if you do it off your own back then as others have said on here, you’re then becoming the manufacturer and any issues will be transferred to you.

Hope this helps.

It’s all good, no hard feelings  Apologies for being triggered by your comment.

Just looking for knowledge/experience to ensure things are done in the best way with the least amount of hassle involved. I know how FBA can be a pain at times with delays etc.

Thank you all for your input. I will continue my research into this wormhole.
