Are we still able to purchase a single UPC for one product?

Hello!

I wanted to ask if anyone has been able to purchase a single UPC from GS1. I have a product that we have partnered up with the Manufacturer to bring their product to Amazon, however, their item currently does not have a UPC attached to their line as they are just launching. They want the item to be under the Brand Registry, but are still able to purchase a single GS1 UPC or are we having to purchase over 10?

Hello @Seller_w5yHLhrVJMKFY,

Michelle at Amazon here. I understand that you would like to purchase just one UPC through GS1. Per the GS1 website, it is possible to purchase just one UPC. Know that once you purchase a UPC, it can take up to 10 days for the information to populate to Amazon. Also note, the UPC information must match the brand that you are listing on.

The items that you want to list may also be eligible for a GTIN exemption. You can read more about GTIN exemptions here. Please know that if you create your listing with a GTIN exemption and later you want to add a UPC, you would be required to create an new ASIN.

Here is some additional information regarding Brand Registry as well so you can ensure that the products you are going to try to enroll meet the requirements.

I hope this information is helpful.

Regards,

Michelle

Hi, as someone who has a GS1 account for the products we make, I can help. You are purchasing a package of up to 10 UPC codes. When you create the one UPC code you need for the product you mentioned, you will have 9 more that you can make at anytime. You will have to renew your package annually to keep it active.

Be careful creating UPC codes for another company. If they place that UPC code on their product and you disappear for whatever reason, they will not be able to renew it annually or add more UPC codes within that same GTIN. I would always suggest the brand owner themseIves set up their own GS1 account to manage, and more importantly OWN, their UPC codes. hope that helps!
