WARNING : how discretionary returns cost you far over the price of the item

A customer buys a brand new book for $15, we ship it to them. They read it and then return it in used condition, for (Bought by Mistake) reason. It gets sent back by ups with a shipping cost of over $22. The customer is automatically refunded by Amazon and we get a used book back. We file a safe-t claim and are repeatedly denied. The reason is there is there is no money to refund ??? Since the cost of the return label is automatically deducted from the cost of the item and the items cost was less than the return label. I’m disgusted, it seems customers can have free rentals and we are here to pay for them. It’s impossible to fathom how this is fair and worse how is this legal? We now have a returned book with no resale value and lost over $26 in shipping costs. I know there will be a million responses of “This is what you have to deal with if you want to sell on Amazon” but it’s just wrong. The biggest hypocrisy is if I was to return an item I purchased directly from Amazon, I’m charged for the shipping.

In the example provided, if the order was refunded via Refund at First Scan, then you may be eligible for reimbursement in certain instances via a SAFE-T Claim. In cases where the you initiate the refund, you can charge a restocking fee per the restocking fee guidelines.

I looked into the claim and see that the appeal is still under investigation by the partner team. We need to allow the team to complete their review and once it is complete, they will relay the decision of the claim. First thing is are you using Amazon shipping?

Second thing do you file s not returned in the original condition?

Whether there is any money left or not is not an issue.

These are funded by Amazon, not the seller.
