Error Code 8572 and 8566 - I don't have a brand yet. May set up a brand later?
I have encountered Error Codes 8572 and 8566 while trying to set up a single product on Amazon UK Seller Central.
The barcodes I am using were purchased from the official GS1 website on 16 March 2026 (over 3 weeks), so they are valid and registered.
Currently, I do not have a registered brand. I selected “Generic” (No Brand), but this results in the above error codes. I also tried using my company name as it appears in the GS1 database as the brand name, but this did not resolve the issue, still got the same error codes.
At this stage, I intend to list the product without a brand and may register one in the future if the product performs well.
Could you please advise how I can proceed?

From what I’ve seen, the issue may not be that your GS1 barcodes are invalid, but that Amazon is not accepting the brand + GTIN setup for the listing.
A few things to keep in mind:
- a GS1 company name is not automatically treated as the product brand
- if you list the item as Generic / No Brand, then the product, packaging, images, and listing details usually need to be fully unbranded
- trying to list as Generic now and then change to a real brand later can be risky, because brand is often treated as a core catalogue field and may not be easy to change later
So I would suggest opening a case and asking Seller Support very clearly:
1. whether this product can be listed as Generic with this GS1 barcode
2. whether error 8572 / 8566 is being caused by a brand-GTIN validation rule
3. which exact field is causing the rejection
4. whether the product would need to be created as a branded listing from the start instead of changed later
If you contact support, it may help to include:
- the exact brand value you entered
- screenshots of the error
- proof of GS1 ownership
- confirmation whether the product and packaging are completely unbranded
It would also be useful if a moderator could confirm whether these errors are part of a wider catalogue validation issue, because another seller has reported the same error combination as well.

Hello @Seller_14TCJ5OWvC2TO,
Thanks for reaching out. When a brand has never been listed on Amazon before, you will need to apply to list your brand on Amazon. Here is the help page that will explain this process for you. Ensure that you do not list your items as generic, as once the brand is applied, it cannot be changed to the correct brand, and you will be required to create a new ASIN with a new UPC per our Brand Name Policy.
I hope this information is helpful and I wish you the best with your new product!
