'Food and product safety issue' policy violation on a used book sold 12 years ago
Hi All
I have received a ‘food and product safety issue’ policy violation for a used book sold 12 years ago and not stocked since. There was no detail at all as to what the problem is. I have appealed it on the basis that it seems to be an error- it is not food and it is hard to see how a paperback book presents a safety issue, plus it wasn’t even still for sale.
In reply I was told it was actually removed for ‘CopyrightProductPackaging’, again no detail presented as to what the problem is. I responded that the book had no packaging, so again it appears to be an error and they replied that there was a complaint about copyright. They included an email address in India and told me to send a message there regarding reinstating the product. I don’t want to sell it again, I just don’t want it to be flagged as a violation.
If it is a copyright issue, I don’t understand why it was flagged as a food/product safety issue. But also, what can I do to resolve an alleged and undefined copyright issue with a used book sold 12 years ago? Amazon has removed the product page for the book but other editions of the book are still available to buy, including from Amazon itself (the book was called ‘Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done’)
I have sent a message to that email address querying the whole thing, and have deleted the listing, but the status of my account has now changed to ‘at risk’ with a message threatening me to address the issue to avoid disruption to my selling, and so I’m worried.
Is there anything else I should be doing? Has anyone had a similar situation and managed to get it resolved?
Thanks for your help.

You need to contact AZ again. I expect you have already done thi, but -
Explain the item sold 6 years ago
That the item was a book and therefore no copyright breaches
That the reasons provided by AZ dont in anyway relate to the product sold
Get them to remove the policy violation.
Best of luck with this, as the moronic AZ SS wont understand what you’re on about, but keep going until you get a result.

Is it possible that the edition you sold was a special, cheap but legitimate edition for the Indian/Asian area which for copyright reasons cannot be legally sold elsewhere? Some publishers, especially academic ones, do sometimes allow this for their western hemisphere titles. That would explain why you are being given an address in India
As for the time lag, maybe another seller has sold (or just listed) a copy more recently, the copyright owner has picked up on it and Amazon have just pulled all the listings. They can’t know that even though your listing is Inactive - Out of stock, you might not get another copy and try to re-list it. That’s why it’s best to delete completely all OOS titles that you don’t intend to re-stock, rather than just closing them
