Royal mail withdrawing products that do not carry a 2D barcoded label
Hi
I have the below announcement today when logging into my Royal Mail OBA account.
I currently use codes UNG and UNH and 99% of my post is large letter. Based on the announcement i assume i have to switch to a service with a barcode that can be scanned. In addition with regard to Amazon a service that complies with VTR. Until now i have been using stamps and this last week stamps/franking.
Any advice on the best Royal Mail service to use and how to integrate my Royal Mail account with Amazon if i need to buy shipping through them. My items are generally lower value so most don’t need signed for etc.
Any help appreciated. Apologies if this is old news as i wonder if i have missed an announcement along the way.
Thanks.
Customer notice: Royal Mail® will be withdrawing all domestic products that do not carry a 2D barcoded label. The current coloured Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed® by 9am or by 1pm and Royal Mail Signed For® Labels should not be applied to your items as they only carry the 1D barcode. Your item label should now be printed via your migrated shipping solution, that will produce your 2D Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed® by 9am or by 1pm and Royal Mail Signed For® Label.
We will contact you to advise you of your migration date but in the meantime, for more information please visit [royalmail.com/shippingsolutions

My Royal Mail account manager has assured me that code UNG is not affected by the recent changes, but I’m not sure about code UNH though.
I would contact your account manager or the Business team to check that code UNH will also not be affected.
I believe this change is more aimed at removing the silver Special Delivery and orange Signed For labels that do not display the 2D barcode.
However, I think they’ll come a day soon when our OBA accounts will be closed and you’ll have to use C&D, where all postal services will print labels with the 2D barcodes on. It’s all about modernising and updating the postal system, similiar to the US system where everything has some form of tracking on it.
If you haven’t already done so, I would get a C&D account open and familise yourself with everything, it’s soo easy to use once you have everything setup.

Thanks for the replies I will set up a click and drop account. I was wondering whether I will need a thermal printer for printing the labels or will my ordinary printer be ok.
