Amazon won't accept my EAN codes

So I created a listing for the products I want to sell under the brand ‘Marvel’ but the products don’t have any barcodes or product IDs whatsoever. I purchased my own EAN codes online but amazon won’t accept it, it says:

‘You are using UPCs, EANs, ISBNs, ASINs, or JAN codes that do not match the products you are trying to list. If you believe you have reached this message in error, please contact Seller Support.’

At a loss here, this is the second listing I’ve made for the products because after listing them as generic at first, Amazon deactivated the listing on the basis that they believed there was potential trademark misuse

Are they genuine Marvel products as I’d have thought anything Marvel would have its own barcode on…

Did you buy your barcodes from gs1?

And I would imagine you wont be able to create listings for Marvel anyway as it is heavily trademarked and is likely to be protected on Amazon

A lot of Marvel products are gated now too, so depending on the source there might need to additional purchases made and an application made to Amazon.

Amazon only accept barcodes from gs1 and anything marvel inspired is not marvel branded and I’d imagine is opening you up to a risky copyright claim

@Atlas_Horatio I would definitely listen to the very good advice you’ve already been given here, you will save yourself an awful lot of money in the long run.

Listen to the advice before you loose your account. I have my own brand and can generate EAN numbers and list with no problems what so ever on amazon. I could start printing Marvel posters but could not generate a listing for them as I do not own the rights to that image. Selling fake goods which look like something else is not acceptable so listen to what people are saying before it goes really wrong for you.

I sell properly licensed Marvel items. Its often difficult enough getting these properly listed under Marvel even though the manufacturer is fully authorised and licensed.
When you enter the EAN Amazon will check who owns that number and whether or not the company have a license for Disney/Marvel items. As your items do not have any EAN then they are not properly licensed.
Combined with you getting EAN’s from gtincodes you have no chance at all as others have said you need to buy from GS1 only.
The only way you could list these on Amazon is to buy proper EAN codes from GS1 then list under brand ‘generic’ and do not mention Marvel or any superhero etc in the Title or description - even then its risky if Disney pick up on it.
You will be better off selling at a car boot and chalk this up to experience.

If you’re listing the products as “generic” you don’t need to enter barcodes, but you can’t use a brand name. If you enter a brand name, they’re not generic! You would need to enter the correct, brand approved Marvel barcode for them, also have approval from the rights owners - Marvel, or an approved reseller of their brand.
So list them as generic - no barcodes, and don’t try to use Marvel anywhere in the listing. You should be OK then.

I had similar situation about a month ago, my EAN codes were classed as invalid, I was unable to create any new product or even edit few existing ones. I had to send to AMZ:
-gs1 subscription invoice
-brand confirmation certificate
-clear link that this particular brand is associated with the company (as my company owns this brand - that was easy to prove)
After some verification that took around 4 days I can create new products again.
