Incorrect ITEM_PACKAGE_QUANTITY - Support won't help

I’m reaching out to the community because I’m honestly at a loss and don't know what to do anymore. I’m a new seller and I feel like I’m about to lose my entire investment before even starting.

I am the Brand Owner, the catalog has an error: it says the 'item_package_quantity' is 4, but it’s actually 1 (a single gift box). I have 500 units currently being checked into FBA, and I am terrified that Amazon will ship 4 boxes for the price of 1, which would bankrupt my small business.

I’ve opened 5 cases (IDs: 11797052992, 11797503602, 11800891432, 11796658902, 11801271682) but I only get automated replies saying the attribute is 'static' and cannot be changed.

I am considering these options and would love your advice:

  1. Should I remove all 500 units from FBA? This would cost me a lot of money in removal fees and shipping, which I can barely afford right now. This option would financially destroy my business and lead to its closure.
  2. Is there any way a Catalogue Specialist can update this? Since the listing is brand new, has ZERO sales history, and I am the original creator, I don't understand why it's so hard to fix a simple number to prevent a shipping error.
  3. Could I create a NEW listing with the correct attribute (IPQ 1) and have Amazon associate my existing FBA inventory to that new ASIN? Is that even possible? I don't want these 500 units to become 'stranded' or lost.

I’ve kept the listing Closed because I’m scared to sell. If any Community Manager or experienced seller could guide me on how to fix this without losing my 500 units, I would be eternally grateful.

Thank you for your kindness and help.

Presumably, as you are the brand owner, it was you who set up the listing? If so have you tried changing the quantity yourself. Does the barcode on the item relate to a single item or a package of 4?

If you are unable to do this then you will have to close the listing and recall the items.

Thank you very much for your response.

I am the creator of the listing. I do not know how the number “4” was introduced there. I tried to change this value, but I receive an error stating that I cannot modify this attribute.

Each box has its own barcode, and I am fairly sure this is related to a single item. Where can I check this to confirm?

What do you mean by recalling the items? Could you please elaborate? I am a new seller, so I do not have much experience.

Thanks a lot.

Couple of queries when you "created" the listing did you enter the bar code and search for the product that way..

When you say your the brand owner of the packaging do you m4an you manufacture the packaging or do you just buy them in.

What is the asin of the product so people here can give the advert the once over and whats the upc (barcode) of the product.

Finally if you want help from Amazon your going to have to tag some of the mods in otherwise they will miss the post.

y guess is that you have listed the items on an existing liisting that has the number set at 4 of them or that they are meant to be sold in packs of four and you have effectivly tried to split the packs. Solution will unfortunately be a recall which will cost you a fair bit or might be worth getting amazon to destroy them by the time you get them recalled and then send them out again dependant on the wholesale price of the item.

Thanks a lot. Here is the ASIN: B0FR96XBX3.

I created the product from scratch using a GTIN exemption, so it does not have a UPC. The listing was created starting from a blank item: I selected the category and then filled in all the required fields. I guess somewhere the item_package_quantity was accidentally set to 4, which is quite strange because the product is a single box and I never intended to sell it as a bundle.

I have a private brand. Our company designs the product, then a provider manufactures it and ships it to the Amazon warehouse.

I did not create this listing by copying an existing one. The item was created entirely from scratch by me. @Seller_k2X0L9mVRT0pW@Seller_KlbXZHzQGSDZv

The asin is wrong as that goes to a box with three candles in.

Have tageed some mods but you need to copy and paste the tags into your initial post

As an aside trying to sell these singly is not going to work very well we buy similar boxes but by the 100's the delivery prices for single units is likely to be more than the cost of the unit.

Unless you can get amazon to change thebatch quantity it looks as if your going to have to recall and rewrite the advert.

When they were sendt into aazon are they wrapped individually or just as a box load with Amazon doing the prep.

Thanks, @Seller_KlbXZHzQGSDZv

The shipment arrived at the Amazon warehouse on Saturday 13 of December and has been processing from Sunday through today. However, the full inventory is still not showing as Available.

The shipment consisted of 25 master cartons, containing 20 product in each master box, 500 units in total. Each individual unit was already labeled with a unique barcode by the factory. Amazon did not perform any prep—everything was prepared by the supplier.

I am trying to escalate case ID: 11902233002, but I keep receiving the same response every time. I know of other sellers who experienced similar situations where the inventory was eventually updated correctly.

If this cannot be resolved, I honestly don’t know what to do next. This issue is seriously affecting my business—and me personally. I am a new seller, and this situation is becoming overwhelming.

  1. I initially considered creating a variation, leaving the current listing as a 4-pack, Creating a new child variation for the single unit (1-pack) with the correct quantity, updating the parent listing images and pricing so customers understand the bundle. However, I’m unsure how this would appear in search results and whether it would cause further issues.
  2. Another idea was to create a brand-new listing and ask Amazon to somehow link this existing inventory to it, but I don’t believe that will work.
  3. The last option would be to send the inventory to a 3PL warehouse, create a new listing, and then have the 3PL send it back to Amazon—but the cost is very high.

Does anyone have advice on what the best solution would be in this situation?

How can I escalate this case further within Amazon?

Can the item_package_quantity be updated? I know some seller were able to do so.

Hi there @Seller_k23UkpF0tby1g,

I'm sorry for the time it took to respond. I've reviewed your case and the answer from Seller Support is correct, the item_package_qunatity value cannot be changed from the value provided on ASIN creation. This is generally to prevent inaccuracies in the Fulfillment Centers and to ensure consistency between orders.

You will need to create a removal order for the inventory and have it returned to you. I'm sorry for the difficulties this creates. Thank you for your understanding.
