Refunded MORE than full price
Just thought I’d share a mistake I made to try and help others. Had a buyer contact me that an item he purchased through FBA wasn’t perfect, he sent photos and asked if we could make a discount to save sending back etc. We offered and he agreed a £10 discount which I processed through Amazon.
A week later I spot that we have the product back in stock again and find its because he returned it…and was given a full refund by Amazon. That’s the full amount IN ADDITION to the £10 I refunded.
Perhaps he knew this could be done and makes some extra money like this, perhaps it was genuine; but its annoyingly cost me either way. I was trying to give good service, should have just asked him to open a returns request with Amazon.

Always remember that you are paying Amazon huge fees to handle all customer service related to FBA sales on your behalf. This is what happens when you trust your buyers. There are dishonest people trying things like this on and looking for customer-centric sellers like you.
They will agree to keep the item if you give them a small credit. Then they will return it for a full refund and pocket the free money.
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do now. Take it as a lesson.

If you refunded via Amazon then I would guess that shouldn’t happen but something you should definitely raise a case for.

Approx 6-12 months ago Amazon updated their policies to allow customer service to offer customers a “more than 100%” refund, at sellers’ expense of course.
If the seller support agent that handled this refund saw your £10 as a courtesy refund rather than a partial refund of the order value then this is probably why they’ve decided to give a full refund plus £10. (since increasing the £10 to a full refund would be the same as taking this courtesy away).
