Update to digital services fee starting March 20

Effective March 20, 2026, we’ll update how the digital services fee is applied to sales in our France, Italy and Spain stores for sellers who are established outside of these countries.

The digital services fee accounts for government digital services taxes (DST) and is applied as a percentage increase on your Selling on Amazon fees and Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) fees. As we continue to better align our fee rates to our underlying costs, we will apply the digital services fee based on the DST rate in the country of sale.

Starting March 20, the following changes will take effect:

  • If you’re established in the UK, a 3% digital services fee will apply on Selling on Amazon and FBA fees for sales in our France, Italy and Spain stores.
  • If you’re established in Italy or Spain, a 3% digital services fee will apply on Selling on Amazon and FBA fees for sales in our UK and France stores.
  • If you’re established in any other country, a 3% digital services fee will apply on Selling on Amazon fees for sales in our Italy, Spain and France stores. A 3% fee will also apply on FBA fees for sales in our France store.

To understand how this fee will affect your business, including rates by store and fee examples, go to 2026 digital services fee changes.

Starting March 20, you’ll be able to view the digital services fee in the Revenue Calculator.

Can I just ask why this is passed onto sellers please? I understand it is a government tax but surely it was aimed at the high profits of online retailers like Amazon, not intended to be passed onto small business sellers which either leads to a) the cost being passed onto consumers or b) lower revenue/profits for small business sellers, and eventual closure for some. We already lose 18% category margin, then we lost product through postage problems/theft. I know it is not a new thing by the way.

Really difficult being a small business online retailer......

does anyone still use Amazon to sell into Europe? for me to sell into Europe through Amazon I would have to almost triple the price of all products and that would just be to match the profit when sold through other sales channels. as You have so many extra fees taxes and of course extreme level of theft encouraged by Amazon. Personally I could not recommend selling into Europe through Amazon. I should point out that Amazon DE used to be my best selling channel it outsold the UK it was superb before Amazon ruined it with the extreme fees and costs and then the mass encouragment of theft made it impossible to use.

A couple of comments on this.

The digital services tax was ultimatly a tax on Amazon by the Governments of the day. The point of the tax was to make Amazon, eBay and the rest pay their full dues and demands, not to pass it on to their selling customers.

As a seller on the web I'm exempt from the tax until I hit £25 million but with Amazon I am charged this tax (BTW It's a tax not a fee) without any exemption.

Charging this so called fee Amazon could make a profit taking in far more in income than they are charged by the tax.

Just shear greed
