FBA moved my ASINs to Frustration free packaging - now I'm frustrated!
Hi all,
I recently noticed that some of my customers had started to complain that their orders were being received without outer carton boxes and I also had noticed an increase in orders going missing. Now bearing in mind that my ASINs are high value items (over £150 each) and have pictures of the items on the outside gift boxes I was pretty annoyed to hear this. I asked Amazon why after one year of selling were these ASIN’s now being sent without an outer carton box and they replied that it was decided by FBA that they can be sent without any extra packaging. I explained to them that this is unacceptable because:
- the items are high value and have pictures of what’s inside so they are more likely to be stolen
- in current social distancing rules most packages are being left outisde customer homes and so even more likely to be stolen.
- when customers return items (unwanted etc) the gift box is covered in shipping stickers. As our company tries to keep the amount of packaging to a minimum we don’t have spare gift boxes to replaced the ruined gift boxes so having damaged boxes means we can’t sell return as new (usually we end up having to perform removal orders and sell them as 2nd hand).
I’ve asked to escalate as I really don’t feel this policy is fair. We are getting bad seller feedback suddenly because of this decision on our ASINs along with a host of other issues related to the ASINs being sent with no outer carton box that are making it difficult for us. Are Amazon intentionally trying to destroy our reputation?
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what can be done about this or can other sellers comment if they had something similar happen to them? Note that we have never agreed to Frustration free packaging and have never asked for any ASINs to be shipped in their own container.

Hi I noticed there is an option to use amazon packing or no packing recently added I have only noticed it on the mobile app and not the web however and I only noticed this when it was not letting us add via website so imagine its relating to that which is crap as no one has told us officially.

Widespread problem.I had a gift for my grandson delivered a couple of weeks ago & it had 3 other barcode stickers along with the delivery label,it looked a mess & unsuitable to give as a present.Only thing you can do is add a plain outer packaging box, grey mailing bag etc to your gift boxes before shipping to FBA.

In your next batch can you not put the product with its gift packaging in a brown box, apply fnsku on brown box then send it to amazon.

So to update - since Amazon FBA moved my ASINs to SIOC (ship in own container) last week we have received 7 x 1 star feedbacks, 4 x damaged products (valued at over £150 each) and 2 x 1 star product reviews with the reason being ‘the products are not shipped in any protective packaging’. I’ve contacted Amazon seller central several times and they keep giving me the SS loop of going around and around with no resolution. The bottom line is saying that their decision to ship my high value items with an outer carton box is final and they won’t change it. They are basically willfully sabotaging my business by the looks of it.

Well I’m trying nevertheless. What you suggest is a bit defeatist. At least if everyone that has a similar issue bugs them about what is clearly an issue then they may reconsider their policy. I know it’s unlikely but it’s affecting both their reputation and ours. That was one of the reasons why I started this topic here. Awareness and pro-action can be effective…sometimes
Note that we just being made aware of 6 more £100+ items damaged or lost by FMA not shipping with adequate packaging.
