Only the obvious - look for any account issues, make sure your books are viewable and not suppressed, check holiday mode isn’t on etc

After that it’s about the quality of your books and their pricing. 740 is a low amount of inventory, but you should still see sales if they are decently ranked and priced.

I have an inventory of just over 5300 individual books, and in September sold the grand total of just 5 books - the worst EVER in 15 years on here.

Has it suddenly dropped to zero sales or has it been declining for some time?

These kind of threads are always so difficult to answer as there could be a thousand different reasons why sales are slow.

And when you say zero sales over the past month, what are your usual sales? Going from a handful of sales per month to zero is not a massive change and could be put down to normal fluctuations in customer behaviour. Going from hundreds or thousands of sales per month to zero would suggest that something has gone wrong.

I have just over 3500 books and see about I or 2 a week at the moment. Prices have had to go up so I suspect this is the reason. Postage allowance just doesn’t cover the cost of posting or anywhere near it now.

hi Yes, pretty much the same here - zero sales on 640 books in two weeks and averaging just one a month for the last few months. It used to be a lot better but adding new items, changing prices seems to make no difference these days. Some people think Amazon is choking off small sellers and i’m inclined to believe them. good luck anyway, Steve.

2 years ago I comfortably sold enough books to justify a professional account, but sales gradually declined partially as my range of titles reduced as I sold out of the more popular ones.

So I downgraded my account. Sales continued to decline but in recent months have slumped.

Seems to me the buy box has reduced the visibility to customers that there are other copies available, and to my mind is very awkward to see them and takes time and effort.

And for this level of account my books can never get the buy box (even though I am getting absurd emails from AZ warning me I have titles which wouldn’t quality for the buy box)

I did wonder about upgrading to Professional but I see in the little information they give on how they select for the buy box they say quantity of sales is important - so seems to me to be unlikely to increase sales from a very low level.

Also use to sell quite a lot to the resellers (not dropship but sent to them) and I still have copies of these scarce titles but that has also dropped to nearly nothing - are their high prices being squeezed by other policies?

So it does seem to me whether intentional or not sales have been skewed very much in favour of the giant sellers whether in the interest of the customer or not.

Like many others all my efforts are now aimed at selling elsewhere.

I am a bookseller and something catastrophic has happened to sales this year. My sense is that a lot of it is probably owing to changing buying patterns resulting from Covid but maybe also buyers are less able to find offers because of various isses with Amazon.

During the lockdowns, especially the first one, book sales went absolutely crazy but since the end of the last one sales have been dire. I think maybe people already have all the books they need or are keen to do things other than reading. The new academic year is usually the busiest time for me but since Covid students are mostly being given their course materials electronically, which has had a massive impact.

This September my sales have been a third of normal from a stock only slightly smaller than it was 2 years ago. There is another factor affecting my sales in that, as a result of the lockdowns, I have not been able to source the usual quality or quantity of stock, and that may well be the case for other sellers, too.
