Keyword listing abuse for registered brand and trademark

Hi all, I would be very grateful for some assistance.

I have had for many years a registered trademark and this is also brand registered with Amazon.

Over the last few months I’ve noticed when using the trademark/brand name in the search bar several competitors products appear along with my own. Checking their listings my trademark/brand name does not appear, therefore, I can only assume they are using the name within their keywords to boost their listings (by linking to my products).

Anyone know if there is a way to reveal listing keywords and also, is there a correct method to report this to Amazon for keyword abuse?

I did try an abuse report a few months ago however, Amazon’s response was to threaten me with making a false claim!

Would be grateful if Kika could perhaps advise please.

Thank you.

No, and this is not against Amazon policy nor law. You only have recourse if your trademark is used inappropriately in the listing itself.

There is no way to reveal the keywords which your competitor is using.

However, the usage of 3rd party brand names or other’s trademarked terms in product keywords is a violation of the Seller Code of Conduct (Sales Rank Manipulation), as described in this thread, which is an example case:

https://sellercentral.amazon.com/forums/t/need-help-account-suspended-for-violating-amazon-selling-policies/423658.

The seller unknowingly had some trademarked terms and brand names in the keywords of his listings, which were added by other sellers, therefore no fault of his own, but it got him suspended.

Search Term Guidelines:

https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/23501?language=en-US&ref=ag_23501_cont_10471

-Don’t include your brand or other brand names in Search Terms.
-Don’t include ASINs in Search Terms.

Amazon refers to it as “Misuse of ratings, feedback, or reviews”, “Misuse of sales rank”, and “Misuse of Search and Browse”, as described in the sections of the “Prohibited Seller Activities and Actions” page found here (https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/help.html/?itemID=G200386250&ref_=ag_G200386250_h_r0_cont_sgsearch)

One was to find our if a particular listing is using your trademark. search for the asin and the keyword. if it returns one result (that listing) then they are using the keyword in question)

Sponsored products with automatic targeting set can latch-on to other brands, ASIN etc
eg automatic targeting on an own-brand highlighter pen might place bids against keywords like STEADTLER or individual ASIN’s for competitors.

There is a way to check if your ASIN or BRAND is being used by another ASIN’s keywords, by using the + operator in the search syntax.

eg: RIVAL_ASIN+YOUR_BRAND
Check for results

Hi if you want to find the keywords your competitors are using go to their listing. Right click then click on ‘view page source’ this will bring up the back end of everything. Press Ctrl + F to bring the search box.
Enter in any words (such as your trademark) and it will highlight all your (hidden) trademarks within their listing.

I reported someone for using my trademark in their keywords and Amazon said it’s not against their policy.
