Selling Private Eye magazines
I’ve been given about 800 Private Eye magazines to sell in aid of a local charity. Are they worth listing individually or would I do better in an auction? Any advice welcome. Most of the ones I looked for are already listed on Amazon and a whole run of them are listed at £96 each but no sign of them ever selling ie no gaps in the run! Most of the other issues are listed for £3.45 or so from a Welsh charity. They are from the 1970s to 1990s. We have a good local auction house I’ve used before, but Private Eye is outside my experience. Thank you. ps I don’t sell in any other way except bookstalls so don’'t intend to try e-bay even if it would be best!

It would take you ages to list each one individually - is it worth it, your time and the vague chance you might sell an odd one now and then ?
I would go for a bulk sale, or maybe year lots at an auction if you really don’t want to do ebay.
…or how about Gumtree or a local selling Marketplace site ? - no fees !

The prices you quote as you say are amazon prices but look on ebay and your get a truer price also most people want single issue because of the cover story so I would try your local auction house

thanks both. That’s exactly it - ‘vague chance’! Though most of my listings are on a vague chance basis - my favourite sale is ‘The Strict Baptist Chapels of Wales 1800-1900’, something like that, which sold after only a year ! Good point also about people looking for a particular news story. I think I might take some to auction and see what they say, but list one boxful out of curiosity. Always nice to try something new. If anyone has any more to add, I’d be interested. Thanks again.

Looking at the sold prices on eBay (which is probably where you’d get the best price for them) for bulk lots, £100 seems a decent offer.
Unless you want to spend days of your time listing them individually on the off chance of the odd sale for a few quid every now and then.

Just to add to the story in case anyone’s interested - PeteBlackmore1 didn’t get back to me so I have spent some evenings listing individual copies, done about three hundred, and will put the rest in auction. I’ll be very excited when/if the first one sells! Apart from the £96 seller and the £3.45 seller there is a seller with quite a run, selling for a penny plus 2.80 postage, and IF they originally listed a full run then it looks like they have sold quite a lot, dotted about. For some reason they have always made a new listing, not using the £96 listings. A few of the copies have sold leaving no copy available, so I have mild hopes for those. I will put the rest in auction even though the estimate they gave was pretty low (lower than the optimistic but invisible PeteBlackmore1 !). I can’t cope with all of them in my limited Amazon shelf space! If this hasn’t been shut I’ll post when the first one sells. Thanks again and good wishes to you all

Hello all, I’ve just been given the rest of the collection of Private Eye magazines that was such an excitement to me last time! So this is issue 941 to 1408, with 11 copies missing, so 457 magazines in all, all in used-good condition. They cover the years 1998 to 2015. I don’t have the energy to try listing them individually, like I did last time, and I don’t do ebay, so if there’s no interest on here after a fortnight or so I’ll load them up and head for the auction house. But if you’re interested - get in touch. Thank you
