Apply to sell (or do I source product from somewhere else)?
Hi all,
I’ve been trying to sell on Amazon but as I’m new (I have watched the vids etc) but still not sure where I can source a product from just to get started? I tried going on Amazon and can see ‘Apply to Sell’ so I thought ok this could be a start whilst i research other products/suppliers but EVERYTHING i try to apply to sell says ‘Were currently not accepting applications’ or it says provide at least one invoice!
So my question is - How can i provide one invoice if i don’t have any? Or is the process I go to Alibaba or to some supplier then just list the product? I’m very confused, I thought it would be a lot simpler than it is.
Thank you in advance

You need to actually buy the stock first (minor exceptions for some particular drop shipping models but don’t go there as a beginner). You need to source some authentic goods from either the manufacturer or an authorised agent of the manufacturer so you can produce an official invoice for at least three of your items. Amazon will ask for these invoices and check your supplier.
Not sure what you’ve been watching but dont! - go to seller university (Help section) and read, read, read. its far from simple on here - best advice - DONT TOUCH ALIBABA OR ALIEXPRESS OR SIMILAR.

Thank you all very much for your advice, I’ll try what’s been suggested.
Thanks again

And in addition, have you set up your Amazon account as a business account

Quick points:
- watch whatever youtube vedios you like but remember, Amazon policy changes all the time, even Seller Universities do not always have the latest stuff. Seller Univeristy is what you need to based your knowledge on; so always reference there.
- Check forum for any nuggets of knowledge or questions. SS cannot help you with day to day stuff and only contact them if you got any policy related issue OR FBA issue
- only sell in categories that you are familiar with as you will need to do the support. Nothing more irrating if I am looking for advice on a listing and you got no clue about it. Like going into a bookshop asking about a certain book and found the assistant actually got no clue about books.
- Brands and categories are gated in Amazon and you will need permission to sell in those. Most are not allow for new sellers. So check you can sell those BEFORE you order any stock
- Dropshipping is another rule totally, so you will need to have stock BEFORE selling as new sellers will get checked with authorised wholesaler invoice. NOTE no retail
It is getting increasingly difficult to sell on Amazon but there are still money to be made, you just need to learn and keep on top of policies.
Good luck
