Cannot create ASIN/SKU

Afternoon,

I’ve been selling on Amazon via the Handmade programme for a couple of years. Never had any major problems until recently. Now I am being told that I cannot create ASINs for my products without having to submit a form to Amazon Customer Services.

I get the message below when I try to add a new product using the “Add Product” button on seller central. It seems kinda odd that Amazon are asking me to confirm whether these products already have an ASIN or not, given this is handmade, all the products I sell are going to be new on the Amazon site because i’ve only just made them (isn’t that the point of handmade!?)

Any advice gratefully received. I’m not about to submit a bunch of forms every time I want to list a new product. It takes long enough to go through the usual forms for listings I really think i’ll have to give up selling on amazon if I have to convince them that my product is not already for sale every time I have something new to sell.

Here is the error message I am getting:

_

5461: You may not create new ASINs for this brand Generic.; If you believe that the product you want to sell is not already listed in the Amazon catalogue and should be listed as a new ASIN, submit an application by clicking here and completing the form

Sorry I maybe way off here (I don’t sell in handmade) but I didn’t think generic was used as the brand in handmade ?

isn’t one of the perks of handmade that you can list under your own brand?

I believe brand registry is different to handmade. You can apply for it, but just because something is for sale on handmade doesn’t mean it is automatically branded (if that makes sense?)

When I list an item on handmade there is a tick box under the “vital info” tab that asks to select whether the product is branded or not. If I hover over the ? icon it says If you are brand-registered, enter your brand name exactly as it is registered with Amazon - maximum allowed limit is 50 characters. If you are not brand-registered, check the box for “This product does not have a brand."

I am not currently brand registered, so I tick the box, and all my listings have the “generic” brand lable applied. Not ideal, but I just haven’t gotten around to applying for brand registry yet… too much to do, too little time to do it all in!

So i’ve applied for Handmade Brand Waiver. If i’m honest, i’m not convinced this is even an active feature on Handmade any more. I had to dig really deep to find the link to the application form (it’s hidden in a “news” bulletin feature from two years ago) and only found this from trawling through messages on the help forum.

Either way, my application is going to take 6-8 weeks to be approved, but may take up to 3 months, but on the plus side Amazon are very apologetic for this inconvenience are grateful that I am one of their much valued sellers. Apparently.

So I’m now stuck. Even if the brand waiver works, I wont be able to add any of my Handmade products to Amazon Handmade for many weeks, for reasons that I dont understand and for which Amazon Handmade are unable to explain to me. I think I need a coffee…
