Royal Mail 24 or 48...any difference at the moment
Hi,
I am contemplating changing to Royal Mail 24 now for this period but am thinking due to the severity of Royal mails backlog, do you think there is any difference in delivery times of each? Or do you think they are just piling up parcels and delivering on a first in first out basis, regardless of service type?

At the moment, generally, depots still work through Royal Mail 24 before 48 - so it should improve your delivery times.

They may take priority however the first in first out doesn’t hold true as I’ve got lots of mail stuck on the 6th/7th/8th April however later items have been delivered (all sent 48). What I have noticed is parcel is fairing better than large letter for some reason?

Delivery times are far more dependent on staffing of local delivery offices, rather than how much work there is at larger regional mail centres. I’ve had many deliveries processed through the network completely as normal, only to be waiting to be delivered by local delivery office for 5 days. Having spoken with Royal Mail Account Manager she has said that staff are being re-jigged and temp staff employed to cope with mail centre issues and that it’s no problem, the issue is staffing at local delivery offices as they have 30%+ staff missing due to need to self-isolate.

Spoke to our rep last week, current Royal Mail Delivery Priority is;
Special Delivery
Tracked 24
Tracked 48
24
48
We used to use 48, however, had long delays and have switched to tracked with the result most stuff is getting there on time now

I only use RM24 or tracked services now, seems to eased the complaints
