Adding Variant to Existing Listing

I have a Parent with 2 Child ASINS. I am trying to add 2 more Child ASINs to make 4 in total. However, when i add by "SKU" in the Variations tab of "Edit Listing". Nothing happens. Why would this be and what is the best method to get around this?
