My GS1 barcodes in use by a Chinese Company already

My business owns the GS1 account and we have the GS1 prefix assigned to our business. I've previously created 12 products on Amazon in the US and UK with no issues, however I recently tried to add 26 new products, and Amazon says the barcodes are already in use by another company - a Chinese company that listed them two months ago - even though we've been selling on Amazon for over 10 months with our prefix etc. and own the GS1 account etc.

We have 26 products ready in our warehouse waiting to be uploaded. What can we do? Seller support is being very slow to remove the ASINS and give us back our barcodes.... Has anyone had a similar issue and managed to solve? It's pretty critical for our business!

Are all of your remaining codes being used. If not select the ones that are a not and assign them to the items as your likely to have a long weight for ss to do anything.

About 4 years ago (when we listed a lot on Amazon unlike now) we had the same problem. Although I would say that not all the codes are being used by Chinese sellers. Many are used in USA and GB (probably by people who have bought barcodes on ebay and elsewhere).

We got absolutely nowhere with Amazon support, they either couldn't understand the problem or couldnt care less to be honest.

We ended up approaching GS1 directly.

They said that this is a common issue and (without saying it in so many words) infered that Amazon had no interest in policing this matter properly.

What they did do, however, is "give" us 1000 free barcodes so we would at least have some we could use.

I would estimate that whenever we create a new listing on Amazon we have to try between 10 and 15 of our barcode numbers before we find one which has not been used by another seller.

Good luck on etting anywhere with Amazon, but I would suggest that anyone with this problem should write to GS1, if they get enough complaints they might actually do something about it!
